Have no idea what right size is anymore! (1 Viewer)

Hi Jurgen,

That has been exactly my point all along......some manufacturers out there are not only defining alternate scales that mess our collections up, but apply these measurements with such an inacurate freedom that we end up with weapons, vehicles - items that have a standard measurement coming out in all kinds of bizarre sizes.......

Precisely. In fact, it is a simple division problem to determine exact scale. If we use 6 feet as the basis for determining the scale, we find that 60mm is the standard for 1:30 (rounded). Therefore, a soldier six feet tall would be approximately 1,800mm (1,828.8). Now just divide the height of the figure into this standard to determine what scale you have. For instance, a figure standing 60mm high, is 1:30 scale, but in the example I gave below, a 65mm figure is 1:28 scale and a 70mm figure is 1:26.

In spite of the variance, the figures are sculpted magnificently, and I continue to buy them. So, I'm not sure what it all means. :wink2:

Hi Jurgen,
I agree with you. But.....The scale industry in the 1970s, 80s, 90s would mathematically stick to the correct scales, now a days this is no longer so clear to many manufacturers....and we end up at a loss as collectors.
If you are willing to pay the high $ prices these manufacturers are now a days charging us they at least should keep to an accuracy expected.
We already have to handle the issue that now a days manufacturers choose the scale they wish to trade in so we as collectors have to juggle with 1:32 to 1:60 and pray that when you set up a dio you can compensate the differences with dislpay angles......
But I sincerely do not see them moving any closer to a stable approach to the issue...to the extent that certain manufacturers will have for example their Napoleonic ranges at one scale and the WW2 range at a different scale and sell the ballony that it is to better represent the periods.....
Cheers

Hmmmm........for my geration i was a big boy (1,88 m) but...........during the WWII i think 1,98 m is a giant..... {sm2}

Yeap....that is the point, unless they expect us to think that everyone drafted, regadless of the army in WW2 had to be a basketball NFL player with a minimum 1,90 m hight..:):):confused:Not to mention the scale of the equipment that gets mumbled up along the process.

I think we should have the moderators create a Scale section under Matte by Manufacturer.

Then sub-forums for each period: Napoleonic, Roman, Crusades, WWI, WWII, etc.

Then we could post findings in these sub-forums about which manufacturers or lines go together, where we find major discrepancies, or ways that we have overcome scale issues.

For me, it would be great to have known that the TCS Panther and Panzer IV would be really outsized compared to the K&C Panthers and StuGs. Right now, I would like to know how much difference there is between the FL 232 8-rad and the TCS 8-rad, or how well does the winter Sd Kfz 251 C go with K&C and TGM winter figures and the 234 series of recon vehicles.

The reason I post this in the TCS forum is because right now I don't purchase TCS because I don't feel that their figures and vehicles go well with my predominantly K&C/TGM collections, or my growing FL collection. I would love to see evidence (not just opinions) that I am wrong, or that it is "safe" to mix them.

To me this is a proactive approach that will also be inspirational to the manufacturers. I think this forum will be one of the best sources of marketing feedback for the manufacturers as it should highlight a great deal of actual buying behavior which is far more accurate than opinions. Most marketing sociology research indicates that what people say often has little correlation to what they actually do. Observing actual behaviors is much more useful. So, it is a win-win for us and the manufacturers.

Just my $.02,

Larry

They actually go better with K&C and TGM. I didnt realize that until I really started to look into it. You get used to a certain prospective and it is hard to overcome. Then when you work with it and actually see the proper proportion, you cant go back. TCS actually saved my K&C figures, because now I have AFV's that are actually correct size with them. Alex

Alex....I completely agree with this post....The scale of new TCS Tiger definitely goes much better with K/C figures. That is quite obvious. K/C WWII figures are quite simply 1:28th scale.... It is a question of realizing that previous K/C AFV's are undersized for 1:28th scale figures.....Until manufacturers label the scale their products accurately and remain consistent at least within their own product line there will be confusion and scale discrepencies....And I further agree that TCS actually saved my K/C collection as well....At least now there are AFV's being produced that are properly scaled to my K/C figures.

Well there it is plain and simple. It took a lot of dialogue to reach your simple conclusion. Many have tried to distort and muddle this fact. So those of you who were confused. Here is a definitive statement on the issue.

Now there is another way to go for those of you who like FL figures. I am still working on that one, but I am finding compatibility with some Figarti, K&C, JJD anf TGM...No not TCS in this case.

There it is, those of us who subscribe to this thinking are not knocking any manufacturer we are just providing you with info which may or may not enhance your hobby experience. Thats all there is to it Alex
