Anyone watch the premier of AMC's 'Hell on Wheels', last night? I thought it was interesting. It certainly had some graphic violence that was unusual for a TV western. Colm Meany plays the big, bad, railroad owner and did his usual fine acting job. Might hang around long enough to see if the plains Indian angle is developed further. The lead actor is a low-key personality, so far. Can't remember his name, yet.:redface2: I liked it enough to tune in for part 2. -- Al

I thought it was pretty good.Looks likes a more realistic look at the west which I like.

I liked it. Will give it a few more episodes to see how it goes. AMC is the non-pay HBO/Showtime. It will be interesting to see how "Premium Cable" changes in the next few years. You have all these channels like AMC and FX putting out quality stuff and attracting great writers, directors, and actors.

Still hanging in with this and so far it has been entertaining. Got some great characters coming into play. I especially like the sheriff. -- Al

I quite like it and think it's developing quite nicely.

My wife and I are enjoying it more. It is getting better as it moves along. I was on the fence after the first show, but the second and third have locked me in to spending time on the show. And yes the sheriff is an interesting character. I like his back story.

Still hanging in there on this but having trouble reading the main character. Beyond revenge, don't know what he's really doing. -- Al

Maybe just saving up a grubstake. The revenge business doesn't pay well. I'm glad they added the new female, the reverend's daughter. If the writers are brave they'll keep Bohannan and Lily apart and make Lily as ruthless as Durant.

I still like the Styrofoam 4-4-0 engine.

More "Injun trouble" a-brewing....nice to Wes Study.

Saw the first couple of shows and I'm still on the fence. The plot is episodic and predictable. The stereotype characters are legion (the dashing hero out for revenge), the evil guy out to get him (the Swede), the beautiful love interest, the immoral railroad guy out to make money, and on and on. Not to nitpick but this is another show where all the characters have pearly white, perfect teeth like they just stepped out of a Beverly Hill's dentist office. Did most people have a dental plan in the 1860's? Including former slaves. None of that means it is a bad show, just not one of my favorites. I can watch it On Demand and FF through the boring parts and commercials. So that's a major plus. Otherwise AMC is unwatchable with the endless commercials.

You can watch it on demand and FF? My cable provider has the AMC shows locked from using FF. That's why I just set it up to record on the DVR and then watch the next day. I have to do that with Walking Dead too.

You are so right. AMC sucks for having to sit through the commercials. It pays their bills and allows for the shows, but I doubt there is more that 40 minutes of actual show. At least it seems that way live.

I'm surprised they haven't done that with all the cable systems. In a few rare cases, Comcast does have a disclaimer that says you can't FF through a program, but when you hit the old FF it still works. I wouldn't watch many shows without it. I hate AMC like poison even though they have a couple of good shows. Several years ago they had no commercials. Then made a big deal about one commercial interruption. Now it's as much commercials as program. Some commercial breaks are so long I actually forget what was on. LOL.

I remember when AMC was commercial free and it was one of the better channels around. Now it is so bad with the ads that a 2 hour show will be blocked for 3 hours. That's a lot of commercials. Oh well... -- Al

Yet their ratings went up when they started putting commercials on.

I just started watching this last week...

I love it...

seems unpredictable to me...

not quite a Deadwood spinoff...but it does remind me of it...

I have gotten through the first 2 seasons and am really enjoying it...

one of the best Westerns I have seen in a while...

I agree it's a great show Michael, thoroughly enjoyed all three series that have been broadcast so far in the UK :salute::

Cheers

Martyn:)

I have seen the first 3 seasons, and enjoyed that very much
Will wait to have the complete season 4 to watch in a row .

I agree.It's a great show. I don't think it's highly rated but people just aren't into westerns anymore.Their loss.
