Heroes of the Home Front (1 Viewer)

Whow another great dio! Thanks for sharing the pictures Rob. Nice tribute to those heroes of the war on our homefront! Love the how to photos aswell, well done mate.......{bravo}}

Craig

Thanks Craig. I like seeing other folks how to pics too, for me seeing how other folk do it is a big help. It was seeing Gordon's dio a while ago that made me want to have a go at windows, mine are not a fraction as good as his, but I'm quite pleased with how they came out . There was something else I forgot to point out, this section here;

UXBDio074.jpg

Is totally removable from the rest of the dio. I didn't want to lose the path, road and wall, so this section of the dio is not glued down so I was able to remove it and will now use it as a shelf display or to just take pics with new items on it.

Rob,
Seems that next time you meet Andy you better discuss some AA guns as Wayne is still campaigning for a Stuka{sm4}

Only ONE word springs to my mind "AMAZING"
This must be an awefully BIG dio ?????
guy:)

Thanks Guy, yes it is a big dio, too big for my office so I've donated the base (apart from street section) to a child of some friends of ours who is just getting into TS and loves the hole in the middle, I think he wants to turn it into some sort of dugout!{sm4}

Well done Rob!

Harrie

Thanks Harrie, I think the Lady with pram and child would look good on this one, but I decided not to in the end. Now that one is done I must start planning for the next one!:smile2:

Still deciding Harrie, there are two running round inside my head at the moment, one for the Battle of the Bulge and one Battle of Britain. Got to start making plans:smile2:

Time well spent, a superb diorama. In particular I really like the black and white pic with St. Peter's in the background. Highlights for me are the highly glossed muddy basement which is really effective and the variety/texture/placement of the rubble, very realistic. Thanks for sharing. :cool:

Rob

Excellent work mate!!!!!!!Especially love the photo"s of the guy in the Hole....must be about the loneliest job in the world!!!!!!. Thanks for showing.

Wow, Rob, I have to chime in here too as I just saw this. You did an excellent job with this scene!!!! It is very realistic and one can tell how much work you put into this. Thanks for telling the history behind this. It was very educational for an 18th century guy like me. Great work!!!

Looks great Rob!

Hope we get some additional UXB figures in the future.
Please keep us posted on how the defusing goes.

Hey CFM, thanks very much for your comments. I especially appreciate them because the things you mention are what I was really trying to get across in that A) these guys often had to dig large excavations like this in deep, claggy mud so I did want to make it look really wet and B) the pictures and film I studied show huge piles of rubble all different in their make up, so I used three or four types of rubble ( both real and produced) timbers I prepared and also those from Buildarama. Thanks again mate:smile2:

Thanks Steve, very kind of you. I can't even begin to imagine that job mate, these guys had stones of steel.

Hi Mitch, its still on the cards I'm just trying to decide between two or three options right now. So far its between Battle of Britain, Bulge or Normandy.

Looks great Rob!

Donnie

Thanks Donnie, I agree, anymore of these sets or any for the Home front would always be most welcome!{bravo}}

Thanks again guys, the feedback from this Dio has been truly wonderful, its not only very kind but encourages me to keep trying to get better.

Rob,

I was out of town for a while so I wasn't checking on the forum as I normally do. I returned toady and was so pleased to see your promised UXB dio. Simply wonderful! Congratulations; the conception and the work and details are awesome!

Hello Rob, absolutely wonderful dio/pics, the whole set-up with the background scene works perfect together, my favorite is the black/white photos with the ruins in the background, also the use of your ruins/rubble work very well with the K&C pieces, I think this dio along with your beach landings/burned out panther dio are some of the best, just goes to show you do not need a huge dio to make some great stories come to life, congrats again mate on some wonderful work...Sammy

Rob, great work mate {sm4} Danger UXB and Foyles War remain among my fav Brit TV shows.
