How Andy has made me POOR and why I want MORE... (1 Viewer)

I got married in August, some 18 years ago when I was collecting glossy figures and we went on Honeymoon down to Wiltshire (West Country of England) and stayed in 16th Century Coach House. Just down the road there was Dorset Soldiers! my poor wife got dragged around their premises for over 2 hours (LOL), she still brings that up today!

Good on you !

Break them in - in the very beginning!

Ron :D

I got married in Julky 1997. We went on honeymoon to the Edinburgh festival and spent a week in London after that. My wife was dragged off to the Edinburg Castle and in London walked twice down Picadilly all the way to Mayfair to see the Tradition shop and carry back a whole pile of parcels. We made a pilgromage out to Wales to meet Len Taylor of Trophy. He charmed my wife by giving her one of his littel Christmas vingettes of a little boy kneelig down so his sister could stand on his back to post a letter to Father Christams.

My wife is a tolerant lady who is fortuantely my professional equal and pays her own way so I am lucky. She says that she woulkd rather have me spend money on something that keeps me at home than something like deep sea fishhing or wind surfing where I would spend just as much and never be home.
Anyway it has been a great ten years and I am looking forward to the next ten.

Maybe I will haul her off to Honk Kong next

It was a choice between fishing, watching rugby and playing golf. So I gave up fishing

Welcome to forum Damien. I enjoy your pictures and especially the Sudan guys. Trophy, glossy Britains, K&C and other makers of glossy figures keep me interested. I also like matte figures. Mainly wwll and Napoleonics. Leadmen

I've got a story about my wife too: I took her on a romantic Valentine's day trip to London (and suprised her with an engagement ring) as a means of meeting up with Mike and Sue Neville of King & Country, U.K., so I could pick up a K&C Junkers JU52 (which they boxed in an enormous 6 foot by 4 foot by 2 foot box they delived to our hotel - it was waiting in our Hotel Room when we arrived on our romantic excursion). Plus, I dragged her to a Toy Show to see Mike & Sue. After all that, she said yes when I proposed (the ring her mother helped me select, which they had designed together, probably didn't hurt).

I sure like your picture. Please tell me more about the Cannon, Soldiers and other items. Any reason the barrel is painted the way it is?

Welcome to the forum. Great to have someone from South Africa come on board. I wish more people would put their Basic location info in their profile. This is a great forum with a great bunch of people thats grown to become a world wide Family. Sometimes we have our little spats.
Again welcome and I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do.

Hi Damian

Nice photos its always good to see some shots of some glossys,
I take it your a sharks supporter ?although the super 14 doesnt hold much sway this year as its all about the world cup .
welcome to the forum.

cheers Rob

Hi
I am a sharks supporter. As fas as the world cup goes whilst my heart says one thing my brain says that there is only one team in it The Mighty Men in Black. You never know we managed to stop them in 1995 with a bit of luck we might do it again. The Hakka still sends a chill down everyones spine. Please don't ever stop it.

The WWI set is by Trophy. There is a picture from the war showing an artists represenation of camouflage in the artillery on the Somme and I thoink Lyn Taylor was trying to copy this. He was criticiesd for his choice of colours but I liked it. The Zulu figures are Little Legion and Trophy and represent secnes form the assault on Rorkes Drift. The Highland brigae are all K and C. Some of teh first figures I bought back in `1997. The Devishes are all Trophy. I am in the process of building a new home and will have a dedicated room built for the soldiers. Then I am hoping to set up Rorkes Drift and Islanwana properly.

The number of times I have seen the AB,s go in as favourites and come home
with nothing is enough to make a grown man cry.
But this has to be the best team we have had since 95 [finnaly got some grunt up front]
Im loath to predict an outcome but I think their will only
be 3 teams in it NZ,South Africa and France because their at home.
I would normally rate Aussie as well but their forwards have been pretty woefull.
Roll on August and good luck. And for what its worth go the canes!

New Zealand must be the only country in the world that has Rugby Union as its national sport.

Aussies don't take Rugby Union to seriously and just use the players that aren't good enough for real men's games like Australian Rules and Rugby League ;)

oz wash your mouth out with soap, its a religion in this country not a sport !
as for league ,state of origin is the only games worth watching.
And dont even get me started on Aussie rules,I live with a west coast eagles
supporter and you cant tell me thats a mans game :D

My wife is very supportive of my hobbies and i thank god for her.I can't tell you the amount of holidays over the years she has spent walking on the Somme,Passchendaele,Mons,Normandy etc.And every year she enjoys it a little bit more!.Also she has a very good grounding in WW1/2 and can identify my tanks with ease!.Come to think of it i better go make her some breakfast.
