I was wondering what process each Member goes through when they purchase K&C figures.

Do you buy new releases as soon as they come out?

Do you buy only retired K&C figures when they are retired?

or Do you have a special combination?

Interesting thought and I am sure we will get interesting replies.

Ron,
I buy in bulk every couple of months from K&C in HK. This gives me time to decide what K&C items I'll get. They vary between older sets and newer ones. Missus Heid's additions to her SOHK collection gets the first grab. The only K&C I don't collect are Barbarians, Alamo and AWI, and sorry but there's a temporary halt to Naps while I catch up on other ranges that interest me....For example, the release of the new WWI German Uhlans is dragging me inexorably towards getting at least some WWI figures. Incidentally, I'm also being tempted more and more by the FIW some of the AWI figures would fit in there.
Now that I have a postal address again, I order around 80% of my Non-K&C purchases from our splendid hosts here on TF and the other 20% is from a good friend who contributes some excellent posts here on this forum. These Non-K&C orders average around 1 order/month.
Of course the Crimea sets are on a permanant six-monthly pre-order from K&CUK, and I am sometimes able to obtain retired items from Tony that I find difficult to get elsewhere.
As you say, it will be interesting to see other responses to your question.
Cheers

I usually concentrate on what will fit in with my existing pieces so I don't wind up with orphan sets. The only retired sets I buy are the ones I would have eventually bought anyway and these receive a higher priority that more recent sets that I have my eye on.

However you have to be careful you don't miss out on a relatively new set that goes before its time like the recent Hummel retirement. These seem to have vanished downunder so I was lucky I bought it a few months ago. I was lucky to get a Dingo today as I suspect they will be an endangered species soon ;)

Ron,
Sorry mate, I forgot to mention; Here's how we display SOME of Missus H's SOHK collection.
Cheers

I really like that cabinet - it looks so cool with the SOKG figures

What is happening to you is happening to me with the Charge Range - lucky I wont be in New York, due to work - because I bet if Tony got his hands on me I would be buying the entire range before I left Louis' house. :D

Oz

I agree - you do need to make sure to pick up those retired items quickly - because they go fast. I think "Sceic2" once told me buy the RETIRED first - then everything else second.

Lets hear more !

Ron

Right now I am focusing on the Warbirds and vehicles first (as they seem to sell out fastest) and trying to go back and fill in the figure sets later.

Ron,
Once you've seen The Charge up close and personal - trust me - you will want the lot - and multiples. Take the plunge, you know it makes sense....:):);)

Not with the US Dollar the way it is right now !

I saw them up close at Troops of Time this week and -ugh- I sure like them.....but, the two to one cost for each horseman and figure is hard right now with all the other things I must catch up on.

I just buy what I like, unless I've never bought something of that kind before, because that would mean I would have nothing for it to go with:eek:I had this problem with the SAS Desert jeep:(:(:eek:

Recently I was contemplating on whether or not to get the BOB American machine gun team, MP, and wounded set, because I liked the resistrance too, ut last night I solved this by buying all of them:D:D

I usually wait for everthing to be in stock before I click buy, unless it's Arnhem:D:D:D

I am attempting to get into a rhythm with the lines that I collect. I have a monthly budget that I allocate first to any newly retired items in those lines. The rest of the budget goes to non-retired items in the lines. Still trying to figure out how to get that part straight, but it will either be sequential (so I don't drive myself insane!) or for ones that will support a diorama or scene that I am building.

I rotate my buying between K&C AK and Britains' F/I war figures. I would buy the figures or vehicles you would use in a diorama first. I don't try to buy every figure in the series. John

I buy Battle of the Bulge, Market Garden and the Alamo. I rotate my purchases between each field but I have to admit I find it hard to keep up with the releases not to mention the financial difficulties.

Bit of both Ron,bit of retired stuff and here and there some new items. That way i keep up with my different ranges and i get to enjoy the latest releases.

But its never easy to decide each month.Do i buy a retired item from the D Day range or the latest anti Tank Gun from Market Garden?

Rob

I start each month with my favorite must have lines like K&C AK, BOB, Nap Cav, Then move onto other pieces as resources and the misses allows. Usually ancient Rome/Greece or AWI. Still think I'm going to add the K&C crusaders to the must have list! I guess it depends on the release scheduling as much as anything else.

BTY are those Crimean figures really that good because I'm a sucker for CAV!

I try and go for 'near to retirement' pieces (based on my bestest guesswork) that I have wanted for a while, mixed in with the 'OMG - That's fantastic, I want it the minute it hits the shelf' pieces. If there's a lull in filling either of those, I'll go for range fillers - the pieces that don't fit either of the first 2 categories, but will dress out a particular range nicely.

I do reserve 2 vetos:
First, if something comes up at a price where it would be madness not to purchase it (pre-supposing I actually like the piece), and,
Second, if a retired piece / set, which is on my wish list comes up, then I'll do my best to pick it off.

If there's any money left at the end of the month after these criteria have been fulfilled, I might feed the kids, heat the home etc. (joke  - I like to stay warm :D)

Yup, they really are that good.

H, that second photo down is brilliant! Is that your picture frame diorama?

MD

Very Sweeet indeed:cool:. Anyone know if the Kings X in San Antonio has them? I'll be down there next week celebrating 20 years with the misses and she promised me a trip to the Man Store;)!

Saber

I would think so ?

I envy you - I have never been to the Alamo or seen Kings X - A trip I hope to make one day.

Take pictures and share your experience !

Thanks MD.
yeah that is one of my better photografic efforts I think.
It is indeed from my picture frame dio. All my "shelf-type" dios now have frames on the outside edges. They add a bit of professionalism - and hide my cack-handed efforts with the paint that I slap onto the diorama bases.:)
