I would suspect that there are still many collectors out there that do not have an interest in Dioramas, or as we call them Battle Scenes.....It has always been argued who started the super detailed revolution.........

Well who ever started all of this, Battle Scene Productions is proud to be a part of it........We can tell you creating super detailed scenes is a lot of hard work, not only in its physical creation, but also in its composition....

So as you view all of the unique artistic work that is out there, please understand and appreciate what it takes to make it happen......

I have spoke of the subtle competition between the Battle Scene artists, but here I would like to thank the following Battle Artists, and others I may have forgotten, for such inspiring work. As I said before we are proud to be a part of this.....Now back to the subtle competition ;)

Yes those are some of the great contributors but it seems you have forgotten some indeed. Maybe you should take a look at the FL forum from time to time. It might help you with some of the things you have forgotten.;):)

Further to Bill's point, you need to include

Sotnik
Artambigor
Fmethorst

They do some fantastic work.

Firebat...
Do you mean in the 1/30th Hobby or wider?? If wider I would venture a guess that Verlinden started a huge interest in dio's with some of his outstanding dio's and many followed that. There are many who do excellent work on this forum and else where. If you mean the 1/30th hobby I would venture that would be K&C as Andy very early on used dio's both to promote the products and for resale.

The good thing with dio's that anybody can create them as long as they have the materials

I think you must be a bit younger than me if you think Verlinden started dioramas:D What about Shep Payne in the US or Major Roy Dilley in the UK?

Martin...

Probably am but, when I was growing up and doing models etc all I saw were pics of his stuff and, he was a huge influence on the dio scene especially in 1/35th. Don't think I said he started them but, was huge in the hobby.

I didn't mean he wasn't very active, I was just commenting on how different age groups are influenced by different people:D

Martin...

When I saw his stuff as a kid I was blown away with his skill and much of the techniques etc that I know are through his books. I actually had not heard of the other two and had to look them up on the net. I am trying to think who would be as influential today on young modellers and, cannot think of anyone really with that stature
Mitch

Just mentioning the Treefrogers and WWII for the most part....and I already apologized for any notables I missed.....Alex

No probs was just commenting on your point about the debate of who started dio work
Mitch

Maybe we should start a thread about our influences:D

Martin

Lets do it here..........Shep Payne...I would get those how to projects in the Monogram military model kits.....I would drool at his work....Can anyone describe a few of those Dios ?

I've never been an aircraft modeller but Shep's diorama of the crash landed B17 was amazing I don't think I had seen anything like it before. When I was a kid my local barber was ex RAF and had all of the Airfix models hanging by their tail on the wall. or you'd see the odd one hang by thread from the ceiling. He was also an all round modeller!

I don't know who started it but there is firm evidence that the Spartans did them, along with their other artistic activities.

That is the one that caught my eye......

How about the:

Hedge Hog Sherman

The Sherman ( Calliope) in the Snow

Actualy I've just remembered one of Verlinden's. The Tamia Wirblewind in a bombed out house with snow on the ground. We should try a get some scans up if possible, I'll bet there are a feww people on here that haven't seen the old Military Modelling magazine!

For me, as a young lad it was a bombed out house with a Brumbar having driven through the ruins. It was amazing and, will post a pic when I scan it as the mags are in the loft but, that image over everything else I saw has stuck with me. I must have literally made fifty brumbars in my time and done this dio as many times.

Thats what started it for me and then must have done every WWII Tamiya kit often many times until I was about 18.

We have the benefit of pigments etc today and lots of real good stuff but, these guys were true masters scratch building everything and painting detail we now use add on products to achieve.
Mitch

I have a lot of the Tamiya catalogs, and I actually just found some of the Monogram Shep, how to do fliers. My scanner is not working with my new computer. Will scan as soon as possible......Great stuff....

Glad this thread went this way....I need some inspiration for our project....We just estimated it will take 50 scenes to complete.....Alex

What about the old Historex catalogues? There was some nice conversionsin them.
