Hudson & Allen Backdrops (1 Viewer)

I don't really have the same concern as with the woodlands one as the trees are sufficiently set back so there doesn't seem to be a scale problem. The woodlands is too large and close. I don't know yet how to properly use it.
 
I think the photos/background scene works great Brad, I'm no Frank M. when it comes to photography but overall I really like it, and hope my winter background will be arriving this week.

Ken/ Erika,
I am very glad to see you get in the backdrop business. I have been looking for them for a long time and you seem to have come up with the ultimate backdrops. All the others on the market were either to short or not the right 54 mm scale. I am really hoping you do a good desert backdrop for WAN and I would love to see a backdrop for ISANDLAWANA for Zulu war. It could be used for Rourke's drift as there was a hill behind the outpost also.

OK happy with the tree backdrop, perhaps a little more blending terrain, but otherwise glad I have it. Robin.

To use this one I think you need to have the right perspective (photographically). If the figure is too close to the backdrop, I don't think it will look right. Robin seems to have got it right.
 
I was trying to use mine in a diorama with JG minis trees. I think the key is something like Robin did - have the trees backing a clearing. The trees in the backdrop along with the trees in the foreground just didn't work (for me anyway). You'd have to use larger trees that are mainly just thick trunks.
 
I think the farther back from the backdrop you can set the figures, the better it will look. I will have to experiment with it to see if I can make it work. There is no similar issue with the winter one.

That first photo is a 'classic'.

Backdrop works well with that scene.

Here's a quick shot I just took. It's better than previous attempts but not completely to my liking and not as good as Robin's. It will have to do.

In this case I would try elevating your base so that less of the forest floor shows. I am working on some old growth trees at the moment, including a new figure in a tall tree that is designed to use with this backdrop.
My dad had a large maple tree in his back yard that was only about 50 years old and it was over 50 feet tall. This would bring it in at about 18 inches in scale. Trees are big...
This was always a wake up call to scale modelers.

Yes they are much larger than you think, one look at most model railways will show this as most trees are undersized.
 
Hurraayyyyyyyy!!!! just got my notification that my winter Background scene has been shipped, along with my first glossy piece as well!!
 
Just as a reminder, I make mature trees from scratch and sell them to forum members. I have 2 sizes that would match up with Ken's back drop. A medium and a large tree. Here is a photo of them with a WB figure in it. I also do custom base work that includes a forest floor. PM me if anyone is interested. Thx Chris

Just got home to take a good look at my H&A Winter backdrop and must say it looks more impressive in hand then the photos, will post some photos next week with the backdrop in place, Thanks to Ken and Ericka on a job well done!!
