Sacrifices were made, but I took down the wall that separated a basement room and my office in order to create space for my Delhi Durbar collection.

It actually all started with the purchase of the Carriage of Alwar that I bought this year. I just could not display it with my elephants which are on glass shelves. The carriage is too long and too heavy.

I was also under the influence of Jim Hillestad‘s display which for me is still the standard (http://www.the-toy-soldier.com/home.cfm?).

But I decided to go with a neutral background and even dispense with the road, rather go minimalist as the elephants with their rich color speak for themselves. I am still on the fence about a dust cover but I am concerned it will distract from the exhibits.

My initial display used a background from Ana.

I am very happy with it and started populating it not only from my existing collection, but also with some additional purchases, some which have not yet been opened after arriving from Argentina two weeks ago.

And if you ever wondered what Ana‘s workplace looks like, this is what it looked like in 2010:

Congratulations on an amazing display! It looks like you will soon need to add more shelves to accommodate all the wonderful sets Ana keeps adding to her catalogue! :)

Wow Andreas, that’s so great that you did it. I love seeing all the beautiful figures in the parade. Thank you for sharing it with us!!!

Oh, and I am impressed Robin Hood and Little John made that long trip!

I've had the pleasure of seeing this in person and it looks fantastic!!

Congratulations once again Andreas on obtaining more space to display your fabulous Durbar collection.

Love the display, I have often thought that a long shelf is the way to do these elephants. I am concerned at some point how long my walls are........................!! Again, nice display!

Starting with the decoration of the BG room.

For an antique frame that had recently been restored, I took six illustrations from the book on the Delhi Durbar by Menpes, published in October 1903. It with its 100 illustrations can be found online:

As the book was destroyed in the process, I bought a copy of the book in not collectible shape for approx. $30. Otherwise, it can be quite pricey.

The six illustrations I chose are Lord and Lady Curzon, “The Tailor” and “Late Afternoon” (both having been used by Britains in their matt DD range) and “A Sikh Warrior” and “A Formidable Warrior of Rewa” (Latter depicted on his elephant by Beau Geste).

Just love the artistic advice and handcraft of my two framers.

It is looking absolutely beautiful, Andreas. I love the Mempes plates in the frame. You are doing such a wonderful job :smile2:
More photos, please ;););)

Ana

Wonderful artwork and frame !!

I have the two Britains Durbar figures in my collection. I really wish they had continued with it.
