If you could go back and be a part of military history-When and Where? (1 Viewer)

Easy Company 506th

Yes id also like to of seen this era, well any part of WW2 to be honest! I loved to lisen to the storys my grandad would tell of his time in the war he used to make you feel like you were attually there! & watching band of brothers gave me a better understanding of what he must of gone through even if its from an american point of view!

"I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day, when he said, 'Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?' Grandpa said, 'No, but I served in a company of heroes.'"

Major Richard D. Winters, Easy Company 506th.

In cronological order,
A british square at waterloo
Stone Wall Jackson's aide de camp just in time to save him from being shot
A private at rorkes drift,
British Para Pegasus Bridge
Easy Company, Bastogne

I hate these post
I find it offensive to the people who fought in wars
Do you you think that the soldiers who fought in all these battles had a choice
War not a video game where if you get shot you can start again ;)
Get real war hell & people get killed

This is a viable discussion! I am the son of a combat veteran! If you had to go back and go through some of the most hellish moments of history where would you make your stand is a good question, that is why I would chose to go with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry, 101st Airborne, where heroism never died!

Well you are absolutely right that war is a lot less glorious to those in the midst of it. The prevailing soldiers view, unless you are some hero type, is how soon can we be out of it. It was the view of my friends and I in our little war and none of us was sorry to see it end. I also have no regrets for ending those alert tours for a mission that would have been part of the end of the world. That said, I don't think this this thread should be offensive to any soldier; it certainly is not to me. It is always interesting to see what different people imagine as the most attractive combat opportunity, for whatever reason. As I noted in my post here, flying a Mk IX against a FW190A or a Mk XIV against a FW190D is something I would have liked to try, as much as I know that the overall package leaves a lot to be desired. Of course real war is hell but speculating about being in this combat or the next does not seem much different to me from collecting and arranging the figures representing those conflicts. It is only a subtle difference in my mind.

It would be great to re-do my own service, as long as I could know what I know now. All those missed opportunites!!

Vick, I was out and in the PD right before then. Good Luck, and try not to get sucked into qual for heavy transport(trucks). You want to ride, not drive;) :D Mike

Most definitely! My father graduated from Ranger school, my mother talks about how when he got back from it he would hug his plate while he ate! He still sometimes does it!:p It's either West Point or R.O.T.C. for me!

I would guess he is referring to the Custer posts a bit back.;)

Spitty,
Thanks.
eborris , you're right. Custer could have used some claymores and maybe a
130G firing a 105mm out the starboard side! Mike
