If you thought things were getting bad where you are ..... (1 Viewer)

I've been watching his channel for several years, provides some interesting information about China including weird building projects, scams etc. He eventually had to leave China for his own safety, not a place I'd live in or even visit.

Yes I've also have seen many of his YouTube videos and all I can say is I'm glad I visited China and saw what I wanted to back in 2010 before I knew about sewer oil and it's like !

Yeah, just can't trust them, it's getting difficult to find alternatives to Chinese made items but no way I buy any food stuffs from there. However they are getting tricky by using proxy countries such as New Zealand.

We have enough problems here mate, don't need to see how FU the rest of the world is ^&grin unreal to watch tho, they all have one common denominator.

In what way are the Chinese using NZ to sell their goods Oz?

There is no denying their trade ethics are at times highly questionable, however relabeling Chinese made goods and implying they are produced by another country is totally illegal.

I'm aware NZ is currently in a battle with China over the theft of our Zespri brand golden Kiwifruit which they have stolen and are growing in China. Which is not the first time they have done this with our produce.

New Zealand's country of origin laws are not as strict as Australia's and only applies to a limited number of goods. I'm not saying the New Zealand goverment is complicit, just that they could be stricter in their rules.

Maybe the Chinese are still a bit upset New Zealand 'rebranded' their Chinese Gooseberries as Kiwi fruit.

That's a sweeping statement, that probably deserves a thread all on its own and I'm unsure why you're suddenly started comparing NZ to Australia country of origin laws? I don't get it, especially considering the title of the thread.

As for the Chinese Gooseberry comment the facts are NZ invested heavily in their 'Kiwifruit' brand and development of the fruit late last century. The name 'Chinese Gooseberry' was problematic particularly in countries like the US, so NZ rebranded it and marketed the fruit to the world. Which has benefitted China greatly and who are by far the largest 'Kiwifruit' growers.

I think you're being a bit oversensitive about this, I initially mentioned it as an example of how China deceives the Western world. My Chinese gooseberry comment was a joke, similar to Pavlova conspiracy.

That's fine Oz mate, however you more than implied China was using NZ to sell their goods via the 'back-door' so to speak, however didn't provide any evidence as such, hence my original question.

The theft of the golden Zespri (Kiwifruit) by China is a sore point as it was NZ who developed the fruit and trade-marked it.

Lets face it China does want it likes when it suits them.....

Anyway I've moved on my friend I have no desire to cross swords with you or any of my other Aussie mates. :salute::

Cheers.

Many people are not aware that Made in New Zealand is different to Produced in New Zealand. For example you can import raw items such as Chinese vegetables to NZ, mix them with NZ vegetables and resell as being made in NZ, as long as most is from NZ.

Of course this can occur in Australia and other countries but a key difference is that most Australian food items have a percentage content on the packaging. I dont think this is the case in NZ as I've never seen it on NZ food items. I'll buy Mccain's chips marked made in NZ but won't buy them if they are made in, say Belgium, have to support our ANZAC mates ^&cool

Yes mate, China has a tradition of being a bit sneaky even with countries that it has trade agreements etc, however China has recently been more openly aggressive in its actions. Have noted NZ - China relations have become frosty recently.

So nice as someone who visited China, to know where the oil the food was probably cooked in has been recycled, in the latest Serpentza video on Youtube, titled China is now using Nasty Poop water to cook food !
Still these kind of scams were common here and everywhere else too a century and more ago and seem to be making a come back, such as the Chicken shops selling chicken blow torched to make it crispy on the outside and undercooked on the inside !

Steve, I couldn't watch your link as unavailable here, but not surprised they do such disgusting things to save some manufacturing and cooking costs. Most food products sold in Australia now require percentage of production etc in Australia, personally I won't buy any food product marked less than 75% Australian input.
