In My Free Time: Dioramas and Stuff (2 Viewers)

On another note, my gunboat is nearing completion. all of the basic structures are now nominally complete except for the smoke stack and signal flag pole. Once those are in, I will go back and add the first level of basic details, like vents, cleats, guns, the wheel, anchors, etc..... I will then touch up the paint and weather the ship. Then I will add the last details like life preservers, door handles, interior furniture, etc....

I'm looking forward to seeing your gunboat when it is finished Sandor :salute::

Cheers

Martyn:)

I think it's been a while since I posted anywhere on the Forum- first it was the start of my Junior year of college, then it was exams, then it was a trip to Guatemala. Now, while I am recovering from the lovely parasite that I met while in Guatemala, I have had some time to take some pictures of my collection, which will be included in my next post.

I am currently working on the gunboat (which is now only missing the funnel and detailing) and the house facade. Unfortunately for these projects, they reside in my father's house, and he is in the process of moving to his new home. This means that I have had to turn my attention elsewhere. My next diorama, which I am currently researching, will hold around 20 figures/vehicles that have just arrived in my mailbox at college and I will soon pick up. These figures come from Ready for Action miniatures, and depict the 1948 Israeli War of Independence. I have included one of the photographs from my research....

Here are some pictures from Antigua:

Here are some diorama pictures....

A contingent of Portuguese Caçadores opens fire on a column of French line infantry. The road is block by a cart, allowing time for the Portuguese line infantry to fully deploy. A guerrilla watches from a mountain pass.

I just received my order of 1948 Israeli War of Independence figures from Bruce and Martin of Ready for Action Miniatures.

First, I was impressed by the packaging. When I was the cardboard box, I got a little nervous: it's a long way from England to New Hampshire. When I opened it, I discovered what must be the best packaging in the industry. The boxes were very sturdy and had magnate closures, so no damage there. The foam inserts were very high-quality and well matched to the figures. Out of 39 figures, not one had his bayonet or rifle caught on the foam. There were zero chips, bends, or breaks.

The figures themselves were amazing. They are definitely closer to 1/32 than 1/30, but since no one else makes this period, that matters little. I was very impressed with the weapons, faces, and uniform details. The new Egyptians were great!

The wait was definitely worth it. I will be ordering everything from this series. Watch this thread for my upcoming diorama featuring an Israeli hilltop outpost. I am currently cutting out all of the hundreds of boards needed to scratch build an exact replica of one.

It's been a while since I posted here, but I thought I would share a few marginal pictures of my collection as I work on my next diorama. Note that the 71st Highlanders are only on their current shelf temporarily; long-term, I plan to add them to my Hougoumont diorama.
