Hello all,
Just wanted to introduce myself and Traverse Dioramics. We're a new supplier of scale terrain and scenery products – a limited range at the moment, but growing. You can find (and order!) our Mountain Pass terrain set here at Treefrog, or see more angles on our website: www.traversedioramics.com. FYI, 1:32 scale is our sweet-spot, but a lot of natural features will be multiscale. We launched in the last few months and are thrilled to be open for business and serving your scenery needs.
I also do custom display projects (commission work), using a dense, resilient foam that I'm excited to introduce to you all; to my knowledge, it's a new material to the hobby. It flexes instead of snaps, and springs back to shape instead of crushing, making it considerably more durable than insulation board (the pink or blue stuff). Armed with a few tricks, you can shape, detail, and paint the material quite nicely. It makes a killer rock texture. In fact, it's the same material I used to do the master sculpt for the mountain pass. I've even crash-tested it with my sons and nephews (six boys from 2 yrs. old to 8). For what it's worth, it's also waterproof, making a great floating island. I'll be posting some "How-To's" in the coming months as time allows.
A word about me: I live in the Chicago area with my wife and 2 boys. I've been a collector myself for several years now, turned onto the hobby through my sons and a general interest in history – plastics, mostly, but I can feel my resistance to metal beginning to weaken. Tell me now, is this how it starts? Is plastic just a gateway drug to a hardcore metal addiction? Better hide the credit cards, dear. At any rate, I'm very glad to be part of the forum and look forward to interacting with you all. Let me know if you have any questions, or requests for scenic pieces. Can't promise we'll fulfill your request, but with enough interest, there's a decent chance.
Cheers,
Dave Bonick
