John could not have come up with a better choice of words and if the shoe fits on the other end wear it...The Lt.

Pretty strong words by the Lt. My self control is being tested....but Ill abide by Treefrog decorum and leave it at that.

Hard luck Scotland, well played though and congrats to Italia.

Well what a right mess I have caused. It's like putting a dozen cats in a canvas bag and beating it with a stick and then letting them out.You guys will have to blame me for this as I was bored and having a few cold ones and was a bit naughty.Yes this is a free forum and alot is said both supporting and knocking K&C.I couldn't care less what gets pulled in this forum and what stays.Sorry guys was just having some fun put it down to too many knocks to the head playing Rugby when I was a kid.But what a entertaining weekend you guys have given us all.:D

Re: Censorship vs Effective Moderation

As a relatively new member may I be permitted to offer the following observations:
1) without rules there is anarchy
2) as a bulletin board owner/operator myself, I am only too aware that a lack of rules means that good members will stop posting and stop coming back if the contents of the bulletin board are not to generally acceptable.
3) I've seen many examples of bulletin boards that are "badly moderated" resulting in poor posting numbers and poorly written posts.

On the reverse side I know of at least one Stalin- like site (with advertising) in which the site owner will allow no negative perception whatsoever to be published on any advertiser and there are 15 different rules that have to be applied to each member and each post before it is allowed to be published.

If you're wondering how the site survives, its because the owner fondly imagines he has a monopoly on certain advertising and information.

I noted that a few of the allegedly more outspoken members are Aussies (and yes...I'm one too- an Aussie that is). May I offer the following explanation- we're generally more outgoing and forthright than the traditional Brits (class-ridden) and the Yanks (money- driven). To an Aussie a digging implement is a "spade" and manure is "****"- its as simple as that.

However it is a red rag when it is suggested on a Toy soldier forum that Australians have no right to free speech because they live in a former "colony" -I dont care how many smartarse smiley faces there are in the post. So perhaps members/ toy soldier forum owners that live in glass houses shouldnt throw stones at Aussies- you may get a boulder back:eek::eek:

BTW I have correctly entitled my post to what I believe is the real issue.

Well said Patton.

You're a naughty boy Simmo :D I went to bed early in the "discussion" and it seems I've missed some of the more recent posts that were pulled.

However your thread has hi-lited the fact that smiley faces are no substitute for good forum manners and common sense. Sarcastic comments (even when said in jest) about countries, their people and culture are far worse than personal insults because they impact on large groups rather than individuals.

I am glad to hear you played rugby Simpson

Well
That is better than tighthead prop. You spend your time moving from one scrum to the next.

We can not forget S.A great country and I have been there the people are great .Never played Rugby there but played there other wise.I would love some biltong if you have any to spare. Maybe spelt it wrong but cheers mate.

Well Simpson
I can say likewise about Aussie
It is a great place and I have worked with lots of Aussies in the UK who were usually a breath of fresh air in the aristocratic world of Scottish surgery.

Nothing like a spot of ignorant generalisation to start the day.Well i'm sure all the good people of the UK/USA are so glad you came along and told us all about ourselves, how did we manage before your post.Manure indeed

Rob

(Sorry guys but that really annoyed me)

If certain members cannot moderate themselves and continue to make a lot of work for the moderators, I will make it easier on my mods (who volunteer their time here) by personally moderating said forum members' posts myself before they are publicly posted.
It would be a pity to have to restrict any forum member's account but I would also hate to burn out my moderators and then have to spend so much time myself ensuring that certain members "played by the rules" that the excellent customer service which Treefrog is known for might suffer. I'm not willing for that to happen.

My two pence worth; I love this place and most of the people here. This place is kind of a home to me. We squabble once in a while, Families do that. Sometimes we get to stand in the corner. Every home has a few rules. This place is free and you get what we pay for. Servers are not free. This comes out of Shannon and Peters pocket if you will. They are entitled to see things go smoothly and with little hassle. I have not been censored here. Have on other sites once or twice for really small stuff. Seemed like favoritism to me. I will not use names. Anyroads, I like it here. suggestion if you will. If you get censored or have a post removed ask nicely. Try to learn from the mistake.

Shannon, I really like the Drunken monkey remark. May I use it as a trade mark? Or is it a form of Kung-fu?;)

KV --Help yourself to the Drunken Monkeys--as Dave Barry would say "Sounds like a great name for a rock band!"

Rob,
I don't see why you feel that you have to appologise for anything. Having said that, after due reflection I tend to agree with Shannon's post, and this thread has pretty much run its course anyway. So can I perhaps suggest to all forum members (including myself) that we get back to discussing toy soldiers.

I second that motion!:).Now forgive me for changing the topic but in an effort to return to said Soldiers, how cool are those new Bulge sets?.I don't think theres a weak release in the whole lot,you gotta love that tractor too.:)
