This is really bad, the live pictures coming through are just terrible, they just cut away as a motorway full of cars was inundated, never seen anything like this.

Thoughts are with those affected.

Re: Japan Earhtquake

Like Rob I watched the tsunami images live - I couldn't believe the force of the waves and the devastation caused. The news is certainly going to be very bleak over the coming days. Best thoughts and prayers to those affected.

Terrible pictures indeed. Best thoughts and prayers to those affected.

And my wife is getting the panic because next week we actually want to fly to Japan for vacation ...

Re: Japan Earhtquake

Just turned on the news and things look bad. Tsunami warnings just went up for Hawaii and the US west coast, from what appears to be an unrelated earthquake (to Japan's). Prayers for the people hurt in Japan and for those in the warning areas. -- Al

Yo Troopers, God Bless them one bad disaster, my wife told me two days ago it was going to happen (true) a guy on the TV said the Moon is coming very close to the Earth on the 19th March and that all these disasters would take place, Mary said everyone said he was nutty, so just shows you how nutty the guy is now. Also just watching Fox News all the West coast of the USA is on tsunami alert, so hope you guys stay safe.

People are going to try to make hay over this collection of natural disasters in a short period. Sciences usually have that covered. He do live on a cooling planet. At my new job they make ceiling light fixtures that are rated against earthquake stress. We learn.

Re: Japan Earhtquake

For anyone who lines on a coast (I line about 100 feet from a Harbor), Tsunamis are a potential nightmare. My deepest sympathies to everyone in Japan already effected, and anyone in Hawaii and on the west coast as well.

Re: Japan Earhtquake

There's no stopping natural disasters, but what makes them worse is when countries including the US allow homes and buildings to be constructed in areas subject to these disasters - coast lines, earthquake faults, fire zones. You put millions of people at risk. It's just a question of when.

Re: Japan Earhtquake

sadly, they have just talked of tens of thousands missing at the epi-center. The images are just like one of those disaster movies
Thoughts with all the poor people

Re: Japan Earhtquake

Maybe "GoForBroke" can give us an update on the Harbor damage in Maui?

The images of the power of nature are beyond belief, the monster walls of debris sweeping across the landscape portends many many deaths. All prayers to the people of japan, this will reverberate for years.....

What a tragedy. The news is reporting a missing ferryboat with over 100 people onboard and an entire passenger train missing. -- Al

Haven't heard much about Maui. Radio reported that Lahaina Harbor had a 9-foot surge. Boats damaged. Kahului Harbor was also inundated. Debris noted on most coastal roads. Staying put for the most part. Thankfully Maui dodged another Tsunami bullet. Interestingly the "Big Island" of Hawaii experienced a 4.6 earthquake at 11:00pm Thursday night as Japan's Tsunami was unfolding. Markey, I couldn't open your pm.

The news just keeps getting worse. some 1000+ dead and hundreds more missing. Plus the Japanese are now dealing with a leaking nuke plant (meltdown is a possibility). Dozens of aftershocks on the 5.0+ level and ruptured crust. On the US side of things, apparently 3 people got killed in N.Ca. when they went down to the shore to take pictures! High price to pay for curiosity. -- Al

Just been watching BBC and they have said they were hit again by a 6.7 aftershock!!! thats bigger than most primary earthquakes. What a nightmare for those poor people

Haiti,Chile,N.Z. and now Japan.I can't recall so many devastating earthquakes in such a short period of time.It makes you think.

The 1755 Lisbon earthquake on Nov 1 was followed by the Great New England Earthquake on Nov. 18. With no news other than letters on ships in those days it took some weeks for the world to be aware of both. New Englanders in local histories commented on the close time space between the times of the two quakes much later.

Maybe, the Mayans were right 21st Dec 2012!!!!!
