I recently decided to repaint my 8 ACW US Marines to 1861 summer dress as worn at 1st Bull Run. I am rather pleased with the results since it has been a number of years since I picked up a paint brush. The biggest challenge were the three kneeling figures. I suspect these were originally painted before being mounted to their bases. Believe me when I say that painting these with the bases on was a bit tedious and required a great deal of care and patience. The first picture is one I took of them as painted when released in 2016. The second picture is of a painting entitled US Marines at First Manassas (Bull Run), July 1861. The remaining photos are of the finished results.

Mike you did a nice job...the weathered effort on the pants turned out well too...really adds to the detail...bravo!

Mike,

Nice work on all counts, the repainting, the diorama, and the photos!:salute::

Thank you very much Louis. I believe you suggested to John the possibility of making figures representing the 14th Brooklyn NY militia which appears now to be a future reality. FYI, the US Marine Corps battalion at 1st Bull Run was brigaded with the 14th Brooklyn.

I really like your repaint and it's accurately portrayed.

Steve

Thank you Steve. The sky blue trousers were always a little problematic for me. It took me a long time to finally decide to paint their trousers white to make them accurate to the October 1859 USMC uniform regulations which allowed for white cotton or linen trousers for summer dress. These are now much better looking for a more accurate First Bull Run diorama.

Excellent job Mike - I have always liked these figures - they look even better now - very striking :salute::

Very nice job Mike. You got me thinking about a Griffin's battery dio... :salute:: Chris

I must have enjoyed this little project more than expected . . . Purchased ACWM-04 two figure loading and firing set this morning. Will have to get the brushes and paint back out.

Decided to do the same with my Marines and the already nice figures, do indeed look even better.

Good for you. I'm really glad you like the results. I have expanded my Marine "battalion" to 15 figures and have them all repainted with white trousers.
