As worker wonder what he is paid, the food bill what not amount to much given his size. Just hope he's up to the job, so many boxes and just one of him at the moment. Maybe he is just a mascot and John has no plans to duplicate, now that would be sad, Cheers, Robin.

Great pics and i working on getting up there in September might pop in and say hello.

I think John pays him packing peanuts. :smile2:

The figure is actually from the Wars of the Roses, see text below -

WOR-01 Olympic Celebration Archer JJD UK, London Toy Soldier Show, June 2012

This limited edition Exclusive figure is available Worldwide FREE, see site for details.

Please note this is a preview image - the figure WILL come fully painted.

This figure will launch at the London Toy Soldier Show, June 2012 and will be available Worldwide through JJDUK

This figure represents an Archer from the Wars of the Roses, but he is giving the V for Victory, a clever play on the modern 'legend' that Archers in the 100 Years War stuck up two fingers to their enemy on the battlefield to show them that they had their fingers required to fire the longbow. The legend continues that the enemy would cut off the fingers of captured archers. Whilst the legend is untrue it remains a fitting piece of history that perhaps should have been.

Archery featured in the second Olympic Games in Paris in 1900.

Here are the top 10 medal winners since 1900 to the present;

1. South Korea 16 Gold / 9 Silver / 5 Bronze
2. United States 14 Gold / 9 Silver / 8 Bronze
3. Belgium 11 Gold / 6 Silver / 3 Bronze
4. France 6 Gold / 10 Silver / 7 Bronze
5. Great Britain 2 Gold / 2 Silver / 5 Bronze
6. China 1 Gold / 5 Silver / 1 Bronze
7. Soviet Union 1 Gold / 3 Silver / 3 Bronze
8. Italy 1 Gold / 2 Silver / 3 Bronze
9. Finland 1 Gold / 1 Silver / 2 Bronze
11. Joint Australia and Netherlans with 1 Gold / 1 Bronze each

Another fact that we like to talk about in England (perhaps after a few at the pub), is that we are all still required to practice our longbow shooting every Sunday, in case we are called up to serve the King in a war! The reason being that constant practice was required to build the strength in the chest to draw back the string, not to mention obtain some kind of accuracy. Guns and crossbows removed the need for huge chest strength, which had to be built up and maintained by regular practice.
Well sadly this legend is also untrue today, however the law was certainly in effect from 1511. This requirement may have been ceased in 1863 (not sure the use of longbows at this stage! :) ) However the law definately was not in effect by 1960!

For more information on Longbows we like this site;

For those interested in Archery during the Oylmpics, the tournament will take place at Lords Cricket Ground!

Hmmm, an Archer from the War of the Roses.
A most interesting figure.
I doubt it is going to be one lonely warrior only.
Is John going Medieval in the future?

Lets hope so this would be a series i would collect.

First Battle of the Marne

The German forces were close to achieving a breakthrough against Maunoury's beleaguered Sixth Army between 6 and 8 September — the Sixth Army was aided on 7 September by 10,000 French reserve infantry troops ferried from Paris, 6,000 of whom were transported in 600 Parisian taxi cabs sent by General Joseph Gallieni, military governor of Paris. The "taxis de la Marne" became in France a symbol of unity and national solidarity beyond their strategical role in the battle.
The following night, on 8 September, the aggressive French commander General Franchet d'Esperey and his Fifth Army launched a surprise attack against the German Second Army, serving to further widen the gap between the German First and Second Armies.

Guessing no one other than John would expect this vehicle to appear on a street corner near them. Seems however it will get plenty of takers. Looking forward to seeing them in diorama's, would not mind owning a full scale one, cheers, Robin.

Yes, the taxi looked great. It looks even better in the flesh. A great addition to the WW1 series.

Wonder if we'll see Louie and Latka figures at some point in the future!!!:D

PS James and Adam had a stupendous Ticonderoga display at the show (amongst others). Hope somebody took some pictures so you can all see it. I didn't have a camera with me.

The Marne Taxi is a much wanted addition for me. I am collecting figures for a French 1914 dio that will depict troops moving to the front and the taxis will be a must have. I can easily see 2 or 3 in the dio, maybe more. The French Army and it's actions of 1914 are my second favorite subject, behind WW1 aviation, so JJD will be feeding my addictions nicely, thank you. -- Al

I might have to buy one too! I agree- that would be my ideal first car!
