Joe Paterno Statue.... (1 Viewer)

Sorry but this runs deep from Joe Paterno to the Adminisrators....They were all involved to some degree in this cover-up and chose to keep their heads burried in the sand to protect their interests at the expense of the victims....The punishment sounds both Just and Necessary at this point in time.....Paterno should have retired long ago....They killed the program themselves....In time it will recover...but first you have to clean out the rats still hiding in the shadows.

Brief and to the point. Agree 100%.

The comparison to other coverups such as Watergate is inescapable.

I don't really disagree with a lot of what has been said here. The biggest pause for me is that the further prosecution of Joe Paterno is based on a non-independent report that has not gone through rules of evidence, cross examination, etc and the main subject has passed away. That is my only point in that regard.

Again, there was a cover up for sure, but we will probably never fully know the extent.

Bottom line, the truly guilty perpetrator Sandusky has been convicted (finally) and that is the best news for the victims. At least they have closure in that regard and can rebuild their lives.

Interesting thread. Has been in the Australian newspapers also.

Regarding losing the wins/record we had a similar situation in Australia. The Melbourne Storm were found to have breached the salary cap and forfeited their two previous years Championship wins. The punishment was because by going over the salary cap they were able to keep four of the top players (ie. one received a boat off the books etc) for a number of years.

The Paterno case a lot different obviously.

The buzz now is that PSU may try to pull out of the consent decree and ask for an NCAA investigation. I doubt that happens, but this mess could not have been handled any worse. They need to clean house again.

Those who prey on and abuse children should be hunted down and prosecuted whether it is 5, 10, 20 years down the line. Justice has no expiration date !!!

I agree with all of Tom's posts on this matter and he states my case much more diplomatically than I ever could. Frees report was bought and paid for by the Penn State Board of Directors. It was not in their interests for the report to blame " anyone " but those names we already know about. There was nothing thorough or independent about Free and I hope the Paterno family is serious about digging more deeply into the whole situation and the University does not impede their right to do so.
