And i was joking about did it really happen.......................^&grin^&grin
I don't understand how a thread celebrating the culmination of the goal of the space program could become so vituperative. It took many people to accomplish this feat, Americans, Germans and many other nationalities.
I was living in Madrid at the time and remember watching it on TV. It was a stunning achievement.
Your right with the aid of German scientists a moon landing was a huge feat at such a time in history with rocket design at such a stage. I did mention that there was a myriad of compelling evidence that puts a good case that it could also have been a bit of a porky.

So exactly what percentage of responsibility do these German scientists have for the moon landing? Im a fan of specific facts and data, not raw speculation.
Speaking of speculation, what exactly is the "evidence" that the moon landing was a fake? Evidence is not the same as conjecture, you realize, I hope. No real doubt was ever definitive, far from it, of course, and all such doubt was postulated mostly by the half crazed nutbaggery that is the conspiracy theory community, augmented by sour faced disgruntled types who pour negativity, misery and discord wherever they can to try and bring others down into their chasm of despair.
You cannot say Von Braun was X % responsible so, here are some facts that really show how much he was involved and how much the US actually needed him and his 120 colleagues taken from Germany.
He was in charge of all rocket programmes which were used in the Apollo programme and all Saturn rockets. He designed and ensured they were made to his and his teams specs. In 1952 a detailed plan was outlined in the Colliers magazine (I have a copy) describing in detail a moon expedition. His work is now commonly known as the space station.
His 1948 work on a mars expedition has been heavily used for current launches.
NASA's own history credits him with among other things being ''instrumental'' in the entire US space programme.
Life magazine placed him in the top 100 most important Americans of the 20th century

Brad..
certainly not by me. I commented upon the facts of what was needed others went off on a tangent. I do think though trying to show a country is somehow clean handed and better than another depends on where your standing. I know being and Englishman with our history enslaving half the world and murdering millions along the way means plenty could hate the Empire.

Again, I have to ask how did a thread on the celebration of the space program descend into name calling and topics completely unrelated to the space program. In my opinion -- and mine only -- it's a bit sad.

My God i get sick of hearing how the 'Yanks bailed out the Brits' I gotta say. I think you'll find at even a cursory perusal of the History books that it was the men of the RAF who bailed us out of a pre planned German invasion in 1940 . And at the risk of offending my American friends and enlightened American members and at absolutely no offence to the Americans who did serve in the RAF during the Battle OF Britain, they did not make up the majority of pilots and ground crew who fought in that Battle that saved Britain ensuring that it became a beacon of freedom in Europe. :rolleyes2:
