June 2020 New Release: The Franco-Prussian War(1870-71) (1 Viewer)

They got some nice books, both sites. A little steep on price but hey if that's what you want it's worth it.

Sure, no problem.

1st, Here is the publisher: Welcome to Verlag Militaria

I purchased through this dealer in UK: FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR 1870-71 Uniforms and Equipment of the German and French Armies - Naval & Military Press (naval-military-press.com)

And here's one more dealer in France: NEW - FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR 1870 - 1871, Uniforms and Equipment of the German and French Armies, by Markus Stein, Gerhard Bauer, Louis Delpérier, Laurent Mirouze & Christophe Pommier. (bertrand-malvaux.com)

Mine came from UK via Royal Mail Surface. Only about 16 Pounds Sterling for shipping, BUT SLOW (89 days). Very well packed. - Could not find a dealer for these books here in the US. - And one more thing, books are published in few different languages, so be sure you are ordering the English edition. - Ken

I bought this two volume set direct from the publisher in Austria as soon as it was announced as available in the English version; it's magnificent and worth every penny................

I managed to pick up a real Franco-Prussian War Bavarian Raupenhelm from 1870 from a Militaria Dealer in Germany to add to my Franco-Prussian War display:

I was surprised to see this helmet sell for 725 Euros, Louis I hate to be the bearer of bad news and hope you don't wanna shoot the messenger but you really should consult an expert or at least only buy from reputable Militaria dealers when making purchases. I believe I've tried to warn you before and also another small warning ebay is NOT the place to buy Militaria. This was relisted many many times looking for a bite.

If you look at the underside of this Helmet you will see empty holes for the correct black wool caterpillar mounting system as well as the replaced bolts through out. The warning signs like the mismatched chinstrap, wrong cockade, and all that black polish all over the insignia trying to cover bad work should scare collectors off. The pealing of the leather on the back of the helmet also detracts from the market value. Sadly It was put together from several parts from different helmets with the intent to fool someone.

Without having someone you can trust to steer you in the right direction, having a well stocked Library of reference books to help guide your purchases is your best bet. These books will be a good step in the right direction and should help guide you in building your Franco/Prussian War collection. I will say this, finding original items from this period are next to impossible, please be careful, an original Raupenhelm from this period would be twice what you paid for this if you could find one, buyer beware my friend. Sorry for the bad news. :(

All this being sad, if your happy with your purchases that is all that matters in the end, but if you should ever try to sell and wanna get top market value for Original pieces its gonna be a very painful lesson. Collecting Original Militaria is a nasty business with many "dealers" lying in wait to make a buck. Its real BIG business taking advantage of new collectors to the Hobby, we used to joke about the MAX Show years ago that if you turned out the lights and turned on a black light the glow from that place could be seen from Mars.

Really glad to see your enjoying the books. I wasn't so sure they were your cup of tea. :salute::

They've grown on me, not to mention they are invaluable as far as uniform and equipment details and colors.

Hi George,

Please don't forget the "German" version of the Charge of the light brigade the so called Todesritt der Brigage Bredow ( Death ride of Bredow's brigade ) from the Battle of Mars-le-Tour of August 16. 1870. With the combined charge of Prussian Cuirassiers, Dragoons & Uhlans it could keep collectors and Team Miniatures busy for a long time.

By the look of the upcoming release, looks like I'm the winner and when I say me I really mean we. :wink2:
