Several months ago, Aviation World, the shop I deal with for my airplane collection, mentioned that to me. I had 20 of the Franklin Mint (and Armour - who preceeded Franklin) aircraft I no longer wanted and was wondering how to sell them. That's when I was told that unless they were well known pilots with good paint schemes, there wasn't much of a market. Fortunately, I had made good choices, so they suggested I bring in 10 on consignment. They sold in less than 2 months. I am going to bring in the rest in the Fall for sale.

Aviation world says there are a lot of 1:48 aircraft collectors who are looking to complete collections with the best Franklin models which are hard to find, especially since there won't be anymore.

Those are diecast models being marketed to aircraft collectors. The polystone aircraft are being produced in smaller numbers and are being marketed to military model collectors - so I don't think it is entirely the same. There would be some overlap, but it would be interesting is to see how many of the military model collectors who are also aircraft collectors will buy polystone aircraft, especially if they are generic. There seems to be good demand for the polystone models but there are also comments from obviously aircraft collectors who want correctly done planes of aces.

If you go on Aikens Airplanes site, the remaining Franklin Mint aces models are now priced at twice that of the normal prices which is where the generic models are still priced at or even discounted on some sites in clearance sales.

It is my experience over many years of collecting model aircaft that given the choice most collectors will buy an Ace based model over a Generic scheme irrespective of the scale or number produced.

For those of us who can't afford these or choose not to spent that much, I would suggest considering the Franklin Mint WWII warbirds Approx.$145-189....they are very well done. They are 1:48 scale but work well, especially if space is an issue in regards to larger WWII Planes like the B-17 etc....Just an possible alternative option for the "peasants"

True, but keep in mind that Armour was available long before Hobby Master existed so other than Corgi 1:72, there wasn't a lot of choice of manufacturers. At the time they weren't too bad so it's tough to judge them by today's higher standards. And many of the aces versions are still in demand by long time Armour collectors.

I have a German Stuka and a B-25 Ruptured Duck and a P38.... I Really like them....I think the paint schemes on these are very well done......I will take a look at Hobbymaster and Eagle international, but wish I had purchased the B-17 Carolina Moon

Andy has been pretty good at posting what he's making in the future. However, once he does, you need to reserve it well in advance because they are made in limited numbers and go quickly

Very nice, Mario! That desert ME109 with the weathered finish could be the best warbird K&C ever made. When it came out I had just expended my warbird budget on the desert Hurricane, and I was kicking myself, as I was blown away by the finish of your 109.

hi mario, nice plane. I was wondering if this ju 88 was in 1/32 or 1/30th scale? I also wondered if the heinkel 111 or ju 52 were 1/30th or not. Has anybody got these and measured them , please let me know thanks.

probably the best looking and most versatile german bomber of the war. Nice looking aircraft and the few I have seen in person look very nice but, not for me, though. cost and detail are the factors. I would rather have a new generation kit with super detail in 1/32nd scale everytime. I know your restricted on detail as its wood but, not enough detail. I actually prefer the polystone aircraft even to the wooden warbirds. Just my taste.
