Previously on ... The Dragoon Saga

After the brief, but deadly, skirmish between the advanced scouts of the Rhode Island Regiment and a lone Dragoon scout, one Militiaman was left dead.

The first contact had been made and R.I. Captain Jeremiah Lukes who was leading the party sent back two runners to inform R.I. General Benjamin Clark of what had occurred.

The two R.I. runners, Samuel and Robert, were intercepted by the Militia leader, Allen and his band of seasoned men. A quick discussion between Allen and the R.I runners led to a plan to split the Militia force into three groups, with each group having a specific mission. (SEE Pg. 14 - thread #208)

We open up here with Allen, the R.I. runner Robert and the band of Militiamen just entering a clearing after an hour long hunt for the whereabouts of the British Dragoons.

<><><><><><><><><><>

"Okay men, lets take a rest stop here. Robert, lets have a talk."

RBET01.jpg

"Sure, what about, Allen?"

"We have been out here looking for over an hour and we have not picked up ever a hint of the passage of any British troops moving through these woods. Not foot or mounted, nothing."

"Yes, I have noticed that also."

"From what you told us, I had a hunch that the British Column would pass this way; <SIGH> guess I was wrong."

"Okay, just a missed guess. Question is, what now?"
"I problem for me, Allen, is I need to get back to General Clark. I had hoped that I could have given him the position of the Dragoon supply column."
"He does need to know what has happened and make a decision. I can not take that responsibility on my shoulders."

"Understood, Roberts"

"With the lack of any contact we need to hold to the original plan and head to that farm you mentioned."

"Yes, you mean Stoddard Meadows."

"Stoddard Meadows, yes that's the one."

"Fine, Allen, you and your men head to the farm. I will head back to the R.I encampment and report to the General .... as I was ordered, remember."

RBET03.jpg

"Yes, I remember. But I can not let you go alone. As you remember, I told you about the Loyalist wandering those woods."

"Very good, but I do need to leave now."

RBET04.jpg

--- LaRRy (RBET03, RBET04)

"Do what you need to do, but I am leaving now."

"Hold for just one minute. I'll get you an escort."

RBET05.jpg

"Allen, pardon my eavesdropping, but I hear you are looking for two men to escort this R.I soldier back to his camp"

"YES, are you two volunteering?"

"Yep, Seeing that we both grew up in these woods, we know it better than anyone else."

"Very well. Then you can help lead the R.I. Regiment to the farm ...... if that is the General's decision."

As expert as Allen and his Militiamen were at tracking and concealment, there was someone who was much better than any of them..........AND that someone was intently watching everything that was happening.

"Thank you for the offer of the escort, but I really am capable of finding my own regiment."

"I am sure you are, but what would happen if you encountered any "lobsterbacks" or other hostile groups.
"By yourself, you would stand little chance. As they mentioned they lived here their whole lives. I am sure they know the quickest route."

"Okay, fine .. but let's get on the move if you would please."

"Good luck, men. Tell General Clark that I will remain here for two hours at most. Then I will proceed to Stoddard Farm, as planned."

"Tell the rest of the men to deploy in defensive positions. This is not a location I chose to be caught unawares."

"Now, be off with you. God speed!"

The Militiamen take up defensive positions as ordered.

IN THE MEANTIME .... A question for K&C Andy

Andy, I just picked picked up a few K&C AWI sets from a fellow collector.

If you look at the pictures below the British figure on the LEFT is clearly BR40.

The figure on the RIGHT is clearly BR23

The figure in the MIDDLE appears to be a Hybrid of a BR23 sculpt with a BR40 paint scheme and the accouterments.

I suspect :rolleyes2: that there was a transition point where you released the BR40 sets but still had some older sculpts of the BR23.

I really like the uniqueness of that "oddball" but I am curious what happened?

Thanks, Andy

"Robert, one last thing. Be sure to .. watch yourself, keep alert."

"What? Uhhh ... sure. Why?"

"Just a feeling. My scalp itches. Every time that happens it always precedes a lot of bad trouble about to happen."

The Rhode Island Regiment soldier, Robert and the two Militiamen escorts have been traveling for about an hour. They have stuck to the deep woods so to keep hidden but now they emerge into a clearing. The Militiamen as a bit apprehensive, but slowly move out into the bright sunlight

<><><><><><>

"Easy, Hiram, move slowly."

"You don't need to remind me Matthias, I have been walking these here woods since I was knee high to a pine cone."

"Ya' fine it be, Hiram .... still, keep that good eye of yours peeled."

"Maybe you two should shout a bit louder so everyone can hear you!"

"Don't worry, Robert, there is no one around .... errr.... least I reckon that be so."

"Oh yes, that gives me confidence. Where are we? I don't recall seeing this path when the detachment headed out."

"Nope, no one generally comes this way. Woods are to thick and the terrain is a bit tough. But it is faster back to your Regiment."

RBET21.jpg

"Hey, Matthias, keep a watch behind us. I don't like surprises .... like them Indian types or those blasted Loyalist fellas."
