I was chatting with The Postman himself the other day - Rob.
I'm a bit of a fan of the first series of FJs but Rob wasn't so convinced.
So here are a few pix of my FJs displayed together.
The light isn't so great and i need to play about with the settings on my camera phone but hopefully they are ok.

I'm with you James. I think the first series FJs are fantastic.
Great pics by the way.

Cheers Guys,

Yeah i think the first series of FJs seemed to be a real step in the evolution of K&C figures. Or at least what I can tell from photos as these are the earliest figures I have. I missed out on the K&C schwimmwagen but luckily NMA produced a good and cheaper FJ version too! :)

Its me the villain of the peace!!;).Excellant pics James, great collection of FJ's you have there mate.Like your two KT's too!.For those of you thinking i've gone totally mad,i think the quality of the figures is superb, its just i feel they are a tad big for todays figures. However when you have an excellant stand alone collection like James has it doesn't make any difference.:)

Really?
I would rate a lot of them as smaller than the bulk of K&C's more recent releases. There are obvious exceptions, like the officer from FJ02, but generally they appear slightly smaller.
Either way, there's some great poses amongst the sets, especially sets 2, 3 and 5.

Very nice grouping of figures. Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

I came into this hobby sometime after the release of these FJs and I found them somewhat unappealing to me. With all the newer stuff out there I never got to see any of them up close. Every show I went to it seemed no one would have them so all I had to go on was pictures. Eventually I decided to take the plunge and bought FJ04 with the MG42 off Ebay. Needless to say pictures just don't do this series justice. Call me crazy but I enjoy the older FJs more the the newer ones. However I would really like to see some new Normandy FJs :D

I usually prefer the later figures myself but I have to agree that the camo on the older FJ figures is more visually appealing than the current series.

I actually haven't bought any of the new FJ figures as they don't really go with my current displays which are presently dominated by BoB Germans and Afrika Korps.

Btw, out of the current Airborne figures available I reckon the British Market Garden Paras are the better looking figures atm. Sadly I just don't have room to display them.

I'd like to see more FJ's in the same camo as these original ones, trouble is i also love the Crete FJ's and really want more of those!.

Rob

I agree Rob, I think the new versions in their Crete era jumpsmocks are really good. What i'll try and do over the weekend is put one or 2 of the old and new in some pictures side by side. There really isn't any difference in size apart from, as Simon said, the FJ officer who is a lot taller than his squad.

That would be cool James.Perhaps i should have explained myself a little better.I had one set of these original FJ's and compared to the D Day figures that were coming out at the time and some of the Normandys SS sets,i thought they were a little 'chunky' as it were. Now this is not a criticism of them (as you know i rarely criticise any K&C figures!:))i think the sculpting and painting are excellant. Its just i felt they didn't go quite as well with all my other figs.No offence meant to any fans of the original FJ's,this is only my point of view remember. The new FJ's are superb and some of my favourite figures of all,i'm hoping Andy may revisit Crete in the near future.

Rob

The current FJ range are very nice with good clean sculpts and paint jobs, and got most of them despite wanting to stay away (!) MG also very good and what got me into collecting K&C. Would also like to see more FJs, but as mentioned before, in the later war camo smocks around D-Day period..

Theres a brilliant episode of 'Band of Brothers' entitled 'Carentan' in which the US Paras drive the FJ's out of town. The FJ uniforms in this episode would be so cool.

I agree with you Rob, I like the scene with the anti-tank- Panzerfaust. Caretan and The break Point are IMO the best episodes of this series...

They created from scratch this fake city-Caretan the scenario is wonderful.

Wonderful series wasn't it,all good episodes including 'Bastogne' and 'The last patrol'.Its just i remembered the scene where two of the US Paras rush up to the upper rooms in the house set up their MG and shoot the fleeing FJ's.The mix of uniforms worn by the FJ's in this scene is very good and would look great on some new figures.

Rob

I'd say I like the early war FJ, perhaps assaulting the forts at Eben Emael with DFS 230 glider(reletively small) and FJ carrying/using hollow charge explosives. Both used for the first time.
Ray

Very nice MG-42 set you have there. Like the AK one better but still I like it.

Cheers SV,

It's a tough call but I think I like the FJ04 set better than the AK version. Both are excellent though and hard to fault. Though the camo on the AK version didn't really exist it looks so good you really wish it did.
The detail on the helmets is also very good with the tiny AK palm tree symbol.
