Everyone, I finally finished the first stage of my Operation Market Garden Diorama as the Anniversary nears us in less then two months.
This is a tribute to all of the United Kingdom and Common Wealth members that I have come to know on the forum and the fighting men that sacrificed their lives for freedom here at Arnhem, Oosterbeek, Wolfheze, Driel, Nijmegen and the surrounding countryside from 17–26SEP44. I tried to capture the feel of the building to building combat that happened in this type of fighting. The flying debris and collapse of buildings that could be as dangerous as the enemy fire. Included in my diorama are British 1st Airborne Division, the 2nd Armored Battalion of the Welsh Guards in their Cromwell tanks and the typical Tommy patrol returning from a recon around their temporary position in the streets to ensure their six is covered.
This diorama has a special place for me as well as I have relations in Wales. A member of the Welsh 2nd married into my family following the war. We have kept close ties all these years. Wales is such a grand place and we go at least once every few years.
So here is to you my friends ......and do not worry....I think the line will return one day!!! Until then build some dioramas with the ones you have!!
I hope you like the display!!
