KC Secondary WWII Market: How are values holding up? (1 Viewer)

I think that most of us collect K/C for fun and are not concerned about secondary markets as we do not consider toy soldiers to be an investment ......those folks who have horded items to re-sell them well above retail will be fortunate to sell for 10-15% below retail........the party is over........Most people are hurting and are not spending foolishly with unnecessary purchases or blowing hard earned money on over-priced "retired" pieces.........If K/C produces new items of interest; folks will still make purchases...eg.(the "Winter Tiger" will sell).....Speculators will be hard pressed to un-load their doubles and triples......and with K/C prices on the rise their profit margins in the secondary market will be little if any at all.....IMO

Good points here, agree with most of them especially with regard to recent retired pieces, although some exceptions (Winter Tiger).

Question, what is your opinion on the older retired pieces like the Priest, Lee (Bogart set), Higgins Boat, Arnhem original stuff including Car, Vietnam, Drum Horse, Old Nazi Staff Cars, Silk Road Pieces, Humvee, old Wittmann Tiger Tanks (15 and 25), I think these will continue to be high in value for collectors who like the history and rarity angle. Some of these will always be worth more, that is the way it is in any collectibles market, I don't consider any of these overpriced.

I will say this, I never believed the down turn was as bad as he Gov't and media said. They are doom and gloom with a purpose... money and control.
As an example, Las Cruces is a reletively small town, even with the housing slump it hasn't changed much here. We went down to El Paso last weekend just to see some new sites you know, went to a resturant pretty busy for 3:00 in the afternoon and my wife wanted to stop by the big mall down there to pick up some makeup. drove around the parking lot for 10 min. before giving up, not a parking space to be had within 200 yds of the doors.
Friday night we tried to go to dinner went to 4 resturants each with hours. ++ wait!
Some bad economy!!!

For the last 3 weekends, my family has gone out to the local mall and the parking lot has been on overfill. It was like the Christmas season all over again. Go figure..Michael

There is a Lee on ebay now at over $300, which at one time might be considered a great price, but has no takers near the end of the auction. I have a Lee, but I hold onto it for sentimental reasons. A new updated K/C Lee would certainly give me pause to reconsider..Michael

It's like that here in my city in Canada. Restuarants seem to be doing well & I am not talking Mickey D's either. The mall is always full. We are supposed to have the highest unemployment rate in Ontario at 10%. Which seems bad but there is still 90% working.

You may be right....... but I would not bet on it.....also the malls and shopping plaza's in our neck of the woods NE New England have been empty.....we shall see within 9-12 months just how deep this depression will go......

Good question on the mftgs vandilay. Economic darwanism is at play, so only time will tell.

So first massive deflation, then eventually hyper-inflation? That is what some expect from all this "bailout" activity. Either way, its going to be a rocky ride for some time.

That corresponds with a few articles i,ve read , hence maybe part of the drive up in the price of gold etc [although to be honest I would have thought it would be higher than its current level , although that could be just another
bubble in the wings]
unfortunatly I would have to agree we are in for a rocky ride going by general buisness conditions in this neck of the woods.

John, I am with you..Where else but in America, can you lie, cheat and steal on your income taxes, and be considered indispensible to our country's economic recovery. Michael

Michael:

I agree 100%, I also feel a fact is important, not who pointed it out!

I am also concerned that we are spending money our grandchildren are going

to have to pay back. And that doesn't work for me!

Things are tough here in suburbs of Atlanta. Several large car dealers have

gone out of business, as have Hi Fi Buys & Circuit City. You must recall during

the last depression people were not carrying credit debt like they do today.

Many people have high house payments, car payments, and credit debt, a

very serious situation if they lose their jobs.

I am quite concerned for our economic welfare at the moment. You must

feel bad for all the people that have seen their retirement accounts wiped

out. I cannot begin to imagine how they feel.

Don't be too hard on your system guys. What you have said seems to be pretty standard fare for most countries. In my neck of the woods being a corrupt fraudster is a sure fire way of getting elected.

That is the strangest of all, another uncharted territory. Traditionally, since the end of WW2, crude oil per barrel X10 gave you a pretty good gauge of what an oz of gold was worth.

Now that is shot right out of the barrel, it is closer to X20... strange times indeed. I bet alot of speculators are crying now trying to chase down oil by shorting gold.

The railroads have really slowed down. The freight shipments usually run six or so months ahead but Candian National here in the US are running only 6 trains a day from the usual 35-40 trains a day.

I was with my son selling some GI Joe/ Star Wars stuff at the Toy Soldier/ GI Joe show in Langhorne Pa back in November. A guy on the GI Joe side of the house was selling the WS070 sl (The Winter Tiger) for $350 and the WS 55 88 piece for $300- sat on his table all day- he went home with them. One figure with the SL Tiger had it's nose chipped off but other than that, it was in fine shape. Bad day for me to be broke :(

Chris,
You were there? Funny as so was I, must have missed you; the Tiger sold at the end of the day from what I heard, some guy literally bought it on the way out the door for 200.00 clams.............I'll see you in Lancaster this weekend. They are moving Historicon in 2010 and 2011 to Baltimore, inner harbor area to the BCC; no thanks, I'll take a pass on that one..........

Yeah dude- I bought that JG Market Garden scenics set from you- the one with the four dirt trail little interlocking pieces- like $40 or something.

THat is a deal!! I will be there on Saturday- will swing by and say hello. Inner Harbor huh- yeah, I'll pass as well- auditing the City of Baltimore is enough for me. Can't see myself going there for leisure :D The BCC is really nice though- admission will have to shoot through the roof to cover those costs.

I hope none of the manufacters, or our dealers are hurt by the current

economic situation. Myself, I have just put in my applications first I applied

for a $2 Million dollar "Acorn" loan to purchase a $1.5 Million dollar Vegas

apartment. Second one is for Engineer position on new LA to Vegas $ 8 Billion

Dollar rail system.

It really makes perfect sense to establish a fast rail route for people to lose

what little money they might have left!:D

And we were worried!:D

Oddly enough things seem to be OK for the dealers I have talked too.:):):)

I have seen dealerships close all around here. Stores closing, cats and dogs living in sin! Mass hysteria! Malls do seem to be busy and the same with some restaraunts though not all. Gullivers in Irvine seemed slow.

Market is up over 7,000 lots of folks still eating out........lets hope!

Bought my engineer hat.......still hoping for that job on $8 Billion dollar LA to

LV rail line.:D

KV I will give you a call when wife says I can use phone again!:D
