King & Country DISPATCHES MAY 2014 (1 Viewer)

Funny you mention this, I was just watching a D'Day Doco in colour and during the 'Hedgerow, Bocage' part of the 2 part programme it clearly shows several Honey's in action.

One such M3 was pushing through a hedge with plenty of GI's nearby and it had the markings C-21 and underneath the 'USA 3051439 S.

Now I'm no expert, but I don't see why you couldn't use K&C's latest model in that same role in a Normandy display?

In the past I've made the mistake of letting other's spoil my fun, due to so called 'inaccuracies' of models and to be perfectly blunt, it's bollocks!! If you like it, buy it and enjoy it mate.......quite frankly in the chaos of war anything is possible and units regularly got mixed up and spread around and used a pile of different colours to disguise their tanks etc etc.....don't let anyone put ya off.{sm4}

Cheers Toddy

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I really do like this release. And was looking for some other pieces to add on. And saw the post. It sank my spirit, Now I feel better, because of your advice. It is really greatly appreciated.

Well I'm one of those who likes "some" historical accuracy in AFV models. And I don't begrudge anyone buying a model they like whether it is accurate or not. But don't try and put the blame on those of us who like history. We didn't make the inaccurate model. And this forum is the place to discuss these issues. I hope K&C do make a desert M3 Honey, but an accurate one and not just a repaint of the M3A3 because the M3 was a very different looking tank compared to an M3A3.

I have to stop reading some posts from the Forum, I was totally enjoying the M3a3 tank that I bought. Have not bought any K&C product for almost a couple of years. Just because of something might find something wrong with it. And with that comes a great disappointment. And now the M3a3 is getting returned. Thanks guys really, thanks for killing the enjoyment.

Maybe the M3A3 could be put in a Battle of the Bulge diorama against the German Elefant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On a serious note I think it is a case and not just with K & C but other TS companies, the buyers is a lot more informed than the company........ however this is a poor mistake, but will be ignored, like the Elefant in the BotB or the crewman [Lufwaffe] carrying what looks like a huge bomb on his shoulder, but then again just do not buy it, I will not,

To clarify my comments below, I'm simply saying what Waynepoo has nicely condensed....buy what you like and enjoy it for what it is.{sm4}

By no means am I interested in crossing swords with the 'experts', because as I mentioned I'm certainly not one and don't pretend to be one.

Well said Terry :salute::

Sorry to "harsh your buzz" on the M3A3. As a model it's a nice little tank, but as a "historical miniature" it's quite wrong to show in in US markings for the European Theater. I think Andy darned well knows better, but the M3A3 apparently didn't sell well so he's trying to ge more mileage out of the items he produced.

re: the photos and the video - what you saw was an M5A1 light tank. Both the M3 series and M5 series were called "Stuart", but the US Army dropped the M3's after North Africa for any further combat in the Med or in Europe. M3 soldired on in the Pacific with the Army and the Marines, but they were older models, not M3A3s. The M3A3 was the US Army's way of getting more mileage out of existing tooling. They had factories in production of M3s and factories that were starting to produce M5s (then M5A1s). The Army made the decision that the M5s (with twin Cadillac engines) would be their standard light tank. The M3 was upgraded to M3A3 and left in production only for use in Lend-Lease and for a training tank (which is why there are quite a few in parks in the USA). To face the logistic challenges of Opn Overlord the US Army was trying to standardize and simplify. Only M4/M4A1 medium tanks with radial engines and M5A1 light tanks with twin Caddys were to go to France. The British forces took the M3A3 to Europe as did the Free French. Any M3A3s that look like they are in US markings in France are actually French machines.

You are right that you are free to buy and collect whatever you want. If you want pink tanks with purple turrets, you are sure free to buy all you want. What I resent is the manufacturer trying to tell you that a model is correct when it is certainly not! There's no excuse for sloppy research or letting sales marketing affect the models. Several manufacturers of "collectibles" have an institutional arrogance about asking for research help.

You can enjoy buying pink tanks and I will continue to call "BS" when the manufacturer tries to tell me that the pink tanks were an integral part of a historical campaign.

Normally I would suggest that the 'pink tank' comment is an unnecessary exaggeration to make a point, but I have a vague memory of seeing pink tanks in playgrounds in Israel somewhere near the border with Lebanon. Any other froggers care to confirm?

I could not find a holiday snap of the coloured tanks but found this on the web!

tank-biathlon-550x365.jpg

Probably bored with the usual sporting event, the Russian Military decided to introduce tanks into the mix as a way of spicing things up. Tank Biathlon is a mechanized sport in which tank crews have to guide their vehicles across an obstacle course and prove their accuracy by shooting various targets, in as little time as possible.

The world’s first ever tank biathlon was held at the Alabino proving ground,Russia, on 2013 August 11–17 and pitted tank crews from several of Russia’s Military Districts against teams from three ex-Soviet countries: Kazakhstan, Armenia and Belarus. All teams competed in T-72Bs tanks, an iconic weapon for all post-Soviet armies, and had to complete three 6,100 meters-long laps across a large racing field while completing different objectives. During the first round, crews had to use the tank’s main gun to hit targets at distances of up to 2,200 meters, which is close to their maximum range, while racing across the field in minimal time. Failure to miss a target cost the teams a 500-meter penalty lap. In the second round, teams had to use the tanks’ 7.62mm coaxial machine gun to hit targets imitating anti-tank mortar (RPG) squads and infantry units, placed at distances of between 600 and 700 meters. During the final round, crews had to maneuver their tanks across an obstacle course that included a scarp, ford, minefield, bridge and roadblocks, as fast as possible. Missed or crashed obstacles added a 10-seconds increment to the teams’ final timing. Russia’s team won the competition, followed by Kazakhstan, with Belarus third and Armenia last.

I'm already franticly hopping on one foot, while the other is firmly stuffed in my big mouth (i'll send you a photo sometime Martin).....so I'm staying right away from pink & purple tanks for now.{sm4}

You may have been thinking of these well known shots of the offensive on Bob's Yard, somewhere on the outskirts of Caen.....

These aren't pink but they certainly are colourful! I saw them in Kiev, Ukraine when I visited last year and they are parked outside a war memorial. I don't know if the Ukraine army has requisitioned them in the war against the separatists but one would hope they repainted them in green if they did! {sm2}{sm4}

I guess the best analogy as an example. Some people are excited about M3a3, some people are excited about a new a Movie, But with the movie there was a critic that criticized and vocal about parts of the Movie (even though nobody asked him, about his opinion), So it kinda killed the excitement for the movie. So if there is another movie, does anyone want that critic to be there? Or do they want to form their own thought, their own opinion. And Do not want that critic to be there? Or does free speech supersede everything.

I don't think your analogy completely works because critics are paid to do their job. Be that as it may, I do want to read what critics say about a book or movie and make my own judgment accordingly. Similarly, I like to hear the opinion of collectors who enjoy studying the finer points about vehicles and have them tell me if there are any errors or whether it saw action in the theater of operations the manufacturer says it saw action in. Again, I'm free to make my own opinion but as an educated consumer I want to have the option of so doing.

If you feel that your enjoyment of the piece has been ruined by what the critic collector has to say, all I can say it's up to each of us as to how we react to what that person says, but don't blame him for pointing out inconsistencies: don't kill the messenger.
