KING & COUNTRY Dispatches -- May 2015 (1 Viewer)

Andy,

With the row boats any idea on what configuration you have in mind for numbers of sailors with oars to soldiers seating.

Would be helpful in planning purchases as they will all be must have items.

Regards
Mark

Mark,

if you have a look at the pictures on the website of the manned boats it shows 4 pairs on each side and 2 single figures facing forward and possibly another single on the side.

It will all depend on how many diggers you can afford to fill each boat, as to be 'historically correct' they were in towed groups of 4 whale boats (I think???) with a powered lighter to lead into the beach.

John,

I was trying to figure out how many sailors with oars Andy intended to go in each of the row boats and then work out number of troops being transported.

John,

Just answered my own question it will be 8 sailors with oars.

E. ‘HITLER’S FINAL DAYS”
From Britain’s darkest hour and possibly its finest in 1940 and ’41 to Germany’s darkest days in April and May 1945...

Hitler’s “Thousand-Year” Reich has barely lasted just 12...British, American and Russian armies are already thrusting deep into the German heartland. In the West, hundreds of thousands of Wehrmacht soldiers are surrendering...In the East the Soviets are already battling their way into Berlin and fighting street-by-street, house-by-house.

In the “Führerbunker” in the bomb-damaged Reich Chancellery, Adolf Hitler prepares for the worst...

WS294 “Dead German Soldaten”
Four fallen Wehrmacht infantrymen who will fight no more...

WS312 “Hitler’s Last Parade”
A special 5-figure set based on actual newsreel and photo images of a little ceremony that took place on Hitler’s 56th birthday on 20th April 1945 in the ruins of the Reich Chancellery garden. Here Hitler greets a small group of Hitlerjugend boys who have been decorated for bravery in the recent fighting in Berlin.
Slowly and deliberately he goes down the line talking to each boy in turn. By his side is Arthur Axmann, the HJ leader. Completing the set are 3 of the young fighters.

WS313 “Hitler’s Bunker”
Not the entire complex of the “Führerbunker” you understand...Most of it was deep underground...But here you see part of the upper entranceway from where Hitler emerged for the last time on his birthday to greet the Hitlerjugend boys.
The triangular shaped structure has already suffered from both Allied bombing and Soviet Shelling...its pockmarked reinforced concrete surface is testament to that.
On one side is another entrance way and an iron ladder leading to the roof.

WS314 “Führerbunker Ventilation Tower”
This cylindrical concrete tower provided fresh air to the underground complex and like the Führerbunker itself has suffered from both bombing and shelling.

WS315 “SS Bunker Bodyguards”
To protect Hitler and the other Nazi Leaders in the bunker a small detachment of SS was provided. Our 2-man set shows a pair of SS men armed and on guard duty with MP40 “Schmeisser” Machine Pistols.

WS318 “Extra Hitlerjugend”
To add to the HJ group meeting the Fuhrer for the last time here are two more young fighters.
The young lad wearing the greenish uniform jacket belongs to the Auxiliary Fire Service which recruited volunteers from the Hitlerjugend. In the battle for Berlin they exchanged their firehoses for rifles and panzerfaust anti-tank rockets.
The other young boy is wearing the standard HJ uniform and belongs to the “Special Patrol Service” group who were already trained in small arms even before the desperate days of April and May 1945.

AVAILABLE: Mid May
I'm not big on Hitler related items but I think this a remarkable dio inclusive of the bunker, the terrain, and the figures. Sets the mood of the downfall like nothing else I have seen. The whole presentation is brilliant. -- Al

The Hitler sets are fantastic but not my bag. Call me a sentimentalist but since it's the 70th anniversary of VE Day and soon to be the 200th anniversary of Waterloo, I thought we may have seen something akin to these dates. Ach well, another month eh! Would have loved the Gallipoli boat and crew but the price....lets just say I would have expected something a little cheaper ( I'm judging the boats price based on the shown configuration). Come on Andy, where are those Hussars.......

I really like the bunker set! I will probably have to add that to my collection soon. I have really enjoyed my first purchase of King & Country WWII recently with the Kelly's Heroes set. I wish I could purchase that whole dio that is displayed with the bunker complex.

Andy mate,
Brilliant set of releases. We have been waiting a long time for the Gallipoli boats and the seated diggers. They look great. Pre-orders rolling in. Also a fantastic selection of the 13th Battalion (New South Wales) 15th Battalion (Queensland & Tasmania) and the 16th Battalion (South & Western Australia). Pity the 15th Battalion (Victoria) missed out but the fact that all these Battalions formed the 4th Brigade commanded by Colonel John Monash (a Victorian who went on to win the War^&grin) and lead the 5 Aussie Divisions as Corp Commander to Victory on the Western Front is good compensation.
Hoping that next months releases will have the RN oarsmens with oars up and down in them to complete the boats and also looking forward to seeing the RN Steam Launch to pull the whale boats into shore. These Gallipoli releases are going to make a great collection in the 100th Anniversary year.
Many thanks. Cheers Howard:salute::

With the bunker, maybe we can expect new figures like bring out the bodies after the suicide, Russians finding the charred remains.... etc.

Those figures theme would be a bit "dark" though - not tested concepts but the manufacturer would need to do some research would such sets sell (would sell if limited to 100 sets ^&grin )

Not speaking for anyone but myself but I would have NO interest in this subject matter at all. Can't imagine there would be much of a market for that kind of thing. -- Al

This is the one time I have been tempted to delve into some of the Nazi range, but I will probably just get the great looking bunker and incorporate it into my Fall of Berlin collection.

As mentioned the landing boat and Australian passengers look great.

However there is some error in the description in the Despatches.

The NSW figures are described as 13th when the patch is that of the 1st, also NSW,which is same as previous FW releases and the Gallipoli officer.

The Qld figures are described as 14th which was a VIC battalion (Jacka's mob). The patch shown is the 9th, also Qld, who were first to land on the beach at Gallipoli and also been done in FW series.

The 16th was 75% from Western Australia and 25% South Australia.

The figures are therefore, according to their patches, from the 1st, 3rd and 4th Brigades.

Hope that helps some.

Good to see something else decent comes out of Victoria apart from the highways heading west cobber ^&grin^&grin

What an outstanding bunch of releases this mouth, love the whale boats and ANZAC crew and the bunker set is very impressive. The German casualty set and four K9's will be very handy too.

My fingers are still crossed for some Kiwi's to add to the whale boats or some welcome reinforcements jumping ashore to help out our Aussie cousins later during that fateful first day.:salute::

DD271 “BLITZ” CHURCHILL
During even the heaviest German bombing of Britain in 1940 and 1941 Churchill became a welcome and heartening visitor to many bomb-shattered cities and towns the length and breadth of the island nation.

Here he is stepping out with his “tin bowler” (steel helmet) on and his gasmask haversack over one shoulder...the famous cigar in his mouth.

I just love Churchill with his TIN BOWLER. Immediately goes to top of my want list. Ironically I am entering into the Advanced painters category at MFCA this up coming week end at Valley Forge a collection of Winston Churchill busts I have painted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death. One of those is Churchill himself in his TIN BOWLER. 1/9th scale resin casting, painted in artist oils over an acrylic undercoat.
see the rest of the collection at MFCA this weekend....

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for the enthusiastic comments...Re Mark’s question.

A. One of our “Whale Boats” can carry approx.. 22-24 soldiers plus 1 x Royal Navy matelot on the tiller.

B. If however you decide to have some sailors “rowing” or “up oars” – (both are being developed you could employ 4-6 rowers and cut down on the soldiers by the corresponding number.

C. We will be releasing the “steam launch” later in the year.

Hope this info helps.
Best wishes and happy sailing!

Andy,

Thanks for the response.

I am certainly getting the sailors either rowing or up oars.

Any additional hints on what maybe also coming for this series?

Regards
Mark
