KING & COUNTRY Dispatches -- September 2017 (2 Viewers)

Like the poses on these 8 Saving Ryan figures, have decided to scoop these up. Robin.

How about the scene where Tom Hanks is dying and says to Ryan "earn this".

Just a great movie in so many aspects.

Brett,

Yeah.....saw SPR when it first came out in the movie theater. I would be lying if I did not admit my eyes watered up during that scene
the first time I saw the movie on the Big screen. This is a movie that gets pulled out of the DVD WWII collection at least once a year !
All that being said I am on board to pick up these SPR figures, all 9 if Pvt. Ryan shows up !

Andy,
You guys are truly the greatest company. Not only do you produce wonderful historical toy soldiers, but you release some based on some of the greatest war movies of all time. Ever since I watched these war movies as a child I dreamed of having toy soldiers based on them. I'm now proud to have in my collection the ones from "Fury," "Kelly's Hero's," and "The Great Escape." I cannot wait to add the "Saving Private Ryan" ones to my collection! Thank you for all that you do and for giving us collectors such fine products!

Not that it matters a jot, but I think the first 4 figures of Saving Pvt Ryan does not include our sniper character Pvt Jackson as described. He no doubt will be in the 2nd batch next month. Looking forward to collecting them all. Robin.

Hi Robin,
You are 100 per cent correct!!! Gremlins at work!
The first four figures are:
1. Capt. John Miller
2. PFC Reuben
3. Corp. Upham
and
4. Pvt. Mellish

Jackson the Sniper is in set 2. Being released in October.
Many thanks for the correction, Andy.

Hi all,

I had to revisit September's dispatches and take another look at the US Marines. These really are bad a$$! I've been admiring the Searching for Private Ryan sets as more a fan of the European campaign. While I like both and had planned to purchase the Ryan sets, I may shift my resources to start a new campaign, the South/Central Pacific.

The US Marines are nicely detailed (love the camo helmets!) and have some beautiful action poses. They also got me looking at the Imperial Japanese and I may have said this before, but both K&C armies remind me of an old Marx playset (Marx Bravo Squad) that I had as a kid. I had always had green Americans and grey Germans until the Marx set which added tan Japanese, and I still have these old plastic figures. I had many battles with the Marx set and now I'm really admiring K&C's battle of Tarawa Marines (not knowing anything about the assault on the Gilbert Islands). In addition, the K&C First Day diorama is fantastic! I look forward to seeing the final K&C LVT-1 Alligator.

In any case, great stuff from K&C again! They never cease to surprise me with new and creative directions.

I'll leave you with a few shots of some old and new Marx for those of you who remember:

I may have to start a new theme.

US Marines vs. Imperial Japanese - great stuff!

Hi Guys, in a few minutes, I will be posting some great pix of the entire 'TARAWA' diorama and a terrific new amphibious vehicle that is supporting the Marines...Look out for the new thread:

"BLOODY TARAWA"

Best wishes and happy collecting!
Andy.

Just make sure it's James Francis Ryan from Iowa, not James Frederick Ryan from Minnesota....................:wink2:

So I got some of the Marines, are we going to see the new Amtrak LVT1 Alligator soon, possibly with the next batch of Marines?. And are we going to get a new DD tank? I know there is the Knc one. But, if there is a polystone one. I prefer to get that piece.

Hi Spartan,
Glad to hear you got some of our new Marines and hope you like them...Re your questions:

You will see some more Marines before the 'Alligator'...We are hoping to get the LVT(A)-1 out sometime in mid-late November or early December in time for Christmas!

Re a new DD Sherman...Not at this point..and that's why we 'converted' one of our 'KnC' models for the purposes of the 'TARAWA' diorama. However, if the Marines turn out as successful as early reports are intimating then we may well have to look at that subject again.

Hope this helps...Best wishes from the 'Chicago Show',
Andy.

Andy,
Thanks for all the info. Looking forward in seeing/having the Tarawa pieces especially the Alligator, if it does come out before Christmas, I already know what my focus would be in buying pieces for Christmas. I do hope that there would be some accompanying marines though, that are manning the machine guns, that we could buy.
The first thing that caught my eye in the marines was the flamethrower, pretty devastating for anyone that gets in the way of it, but definitely a piece that us collectors has been wishing for, as soon as the Pacific side of the war was announced.
Thank you for giving us this, and everything WWII. And everything else. Especially (again) the six day war. Kudos!!! To you and eveybody!!!
And if you do come to Sierra Toy Soldier next year, looking forward to you signing the Alligator, And who knows maybe the polystone DD-tank. Again Thank you!l

Hi Spartan,
Many thanks for your enthusiastic response...If and when I get back to Los Gatos (Sierra's home base) I would be delighted to sign the LVT(A)-1.

Also don't worry about any shortage of Marines...K&C have designed and sculpted OVER TWO DOZEN 'Leathernecks' in action to go with this series plus we've got ideas for more!

Let's look forward to the next release .
Best wishes and happy collecting! Andy.

Wow!!, more than two dozen, looks like I will be busy with these choices, I am looking forward to seeing each piece. Thanks again Andy for the info!!....

What if it's James Ferdinand Ryan? {sm2}

Ryan=Niland,

I graduated from Tonawanda High(N.Y.)1966 with Pete Niland. His dad was shot down over Burma
and presumed dead.A monument in this town also honors 101st AB Div.T/Sgt'Skip'Muck KIA 1/1945"Band of Brothers"
and the 2 KIA Niland brothers (Robert& Preston-both KIA Normandy 6/44).
Interesting that 2 major fliks featured soldiers from this small town. The boys knew each other.(3 Airborne,
1 Airman,1 Grunt).

...If you open it up to the wider Buffalo area, three movies, as John Basilone (Marine, "Pacific", MOH awardee) was born in Buffalo. Charles Deglopper, another MOH awardee came from Grand Island, though I don't know of any movies about him.
