KING & COUNTRY Dispatches -- September 2017 (1 Viewer)

Yes the 2 Marines released last year were getting lonely, so the support troop of 6 are on their way. The series has potential. Looking forward to the photos later this month from Chicago, when they are set out in a terrain setting. Robin.

I don't usually collect Pacific Theater items (more of a space issue) but USMC016 ‘No Marine Left Behind’ might be too good to pass up.

Tarawa,Andy,2nd Mar Div here should be mostly ALL in full camo utilities. M1 Carbine add 2 magazine slip on stock pouch.
More gyrenes w/fixed bayonets(this sure ain't the ETO!!)
Full packs for 1st day stuck on beach.
Ammo bandoliers.
'X' suspenders(especially for BAR gunner),BAR gunners usually small in stature.many preferred no bipod or carrying handle*
'K'Bars,bayonet scabbards,musette bags /E-tools/Pick-mattock/1st aide pouch
Hospital Corpsmen..no red crosses on white backgrounds(a few did have a small white circle on back of helmet or back
shoulder or butt pocket.for Tarawa..not too much later however.
Give Corpsman 2 aide bags,maybe a 3rd canteen,a machete & 1911 Colt or M1 Carbine.Some had rank on left shoulder.

* Load BAR A-gunner with plenty of ammo & bandoliers.(probably armed w/M1 Carbine)
Give grunts more grenades/satchel charges.

Jeez, almost forgot the rifle grenadiers + sniper scopes..&..1919 Browning MGs & 60 mm Mortars for CO.Wpns plt.
What did I leave out here?.........

What did you leave out here..?
Not a lot, I would have to say, so, I'll tell the factory to 'halt the presses' ...stop everything..and start all over again!

K&C did Marines with full packs etc., back in 2005...This time we wanted to do something different hence what you see before you. As for Marine camo....it would be great but considerably more expensive to produce and sell...We want these Marines to be affordable for the many not just for the few.

PLUS although we've created a 'Tarawa' dio for this initial release collectors can utilise these 'leathernecks in almost any Pacific War location the Marines fought in...And maybe even in Korea!!!

Thanks for your input and best wishes, Andy.

Guys I'm very happy with the new Marines. and found this image on the internet. of the movie With the Marines at Tarawa.

And I would be remiss if I failed to mention using a weapon Ike disallowed
in the ETO...the '97 Winchester 12 gauge Trenchgun. Rascally jarheads.

Hi Randy,
I am happy to tell you that one of the Marines we will be releasing later is indeed firing the 'Trench Gun'!
Semipermanent Fi, Andy.

Stop tempting me! No more room for a new line. :redface2: And I have to make room for those mounted horse soldiers that are coming. :smile2: Chris

A look at US Marines on Tarawa in photos from WWII show a mix of uniform types. 2nd Marines seem to be mostly OD BDU with a Camo helmet cover and Sand color Webbing. A number of Marines are shown in full Camo BDUs. I don't know what the split is, but it looks about 50/50 from the photos I have reviewed. I would say that the K&C Marine uniforms for Tarawa are correct; but full Camo uniforms could be mixed in too. Perhaps full Camo BDUs were just phasing in at Tarawa in 1943; which would account for the split in uniform types i.e. some old some new.

Andy.....As you are well aware....I'm only here to help...heh,heh.

And please be the first kid on the block to give us the PTO version of the M4....Wood sideboards,
no Ma Deuce, chicken wire or spikes covering ALL hatches, sandbagged or heavily cluttered rear deck,
No 'White Stars on tank sides or turret....fording vents OK on some(Rear vent sometimes faced ..rear) .

Ahhh..get back to your mounted horse soldiers fer cryin'out loud.

Take care,sir

Katana,First issue of full cammo utilities was given to the 2 Marine Raider Bns & Para Bn. .2nd Mar Div given full issue but B&W photos /wet uniforms
may allay this aspect.I do not believe on shore Naval personnel(other than platoon attached Corpsmen)were issued these.Major island assaults 1944 on,
cammo helmet covers(or mosquito net covers)w/ mostly HBT utilities but...at times..whatever the QM threw at you.(Mix & Match)
(I've seen LCIs for Iwo with every gyrene minus a helmet cover...??!!).

Sack time..goodnight,sir.

K. “DESERT TRACKS”
Following the success of the most recent “Rommel’s Command Car” set (AK107) featuring the sand / grey camouflaged ‘ADLER’ Sd. Kfz. 251 we have had a large number of requests to extend this particular camouflage scheme to some other Afrika Korps vehicles that were being shipped over to North Africa to supplement the Desert Fox’s meagre armoured force...

View attachment 218758

AK116 “Pz. Kpfw. 35R(F) Self-Propelled Gun”
Mounted on the tracked chassis of captured French Renault tanks these small SPG’s make a fine addition for Rommel’s Afrika Korps.
This particular model mounts a 4.7cm anti tank gun in an open armoured turret to become a tank destroyer... Some were used during “Operation Barbarossa” – the Invasion of Russia in 1941. A few even saw action in Normandy in June 1944.

AK117 “Panzerjager 1”
Another old favorite but this time with the distinctive 2-colour camo. This set also includes the relaxing Afrika Korps figure.
Based on a Panzer 1 tank chassis this self-propelled gun mounts a 4.7 cm Czech-made Skoda gun and was the first German tank destroyer of WW2.

AVAILABLE: Mid-Late September

I know that Pz Kpfw 35R had been employed on the eastern front and in France, I've never seen a pic of this tank in North Africa and I've never seen this tank mentioned in the equipment inventory of the PzJager units that fought in North Africa, anyone has information on this ?

Cheers

Roberto

Hi Andy and team,
I have to agree with Roberto here.....
If you are just saying that you are picking Self-propelled gun set off the existing K&C catalogue and giving them an " Afrika Korps look " without validating that they actually were shipped to Africa, so as to offer collectors more flavour to their collections, fine, but in doing so you are sacrificing the historical accuracy... As Roberto mantions I am not aware that the PZ KPFW 35R ( a nice looking ASP ) went over to Africa. If you were to add the Wespe that did take part of the African campaigns as an option for a Self-propelled gun would be much better.
Cheers

Hi Andy,

Any chance that these two will also make an appearance in the Sheriff of Nottingham's livery at some point?

MK168 ‘Knight About to Strike’
With his large long Norman-style shield protecting the length of his body this fighting Knight is about to strike a deadly blow!

MK169 ‘Knight Fighting Double-Handed’
One hand is good... two even better to grip your sword handle and ‘parry’ an aggressive enemy.

Cheers

Some 200 were produced and many went to several Anti-tank Battalions for Barbarossa where they replaced 3.7mm towed anti-tank guns. The 4.7mm gun was superior to the towed 3.7mm gun and they saw combat but performed so poorly mechanically, the units went back to their towed 3.7mm guns. The 35Rs were withdrawn from Russia and were assigned to infantry divisions and anti-tank units in France were they fought extensively in Normandy. Some garrisoned the Channel Islands (Guernsey, Jersey). Despite being obsolete in 1944, the 4.7mm gun could take out most allied tanks except the Churchill. It would be a wonderful model for Normandy 1944 but I'm pretty certain none went to Afrika or even Italy.

Converted 4.7mm 35R and unconverted 35R tank from the 100th Panzer Regiment near Cherbourg 1944. Note the consecutive numbers and the similar camo patterns - SPG and Tank in the same company?
