KING & COUNTRY Dispatches -- September 2017 (1 Viewer)

Ok have to confess, really thought Australian Light Horse, Roman archers and Japanese cyclists were going to feature, so I got it completely wrong and will in future pull my head in. Nice to see the loose end of Black Adder attended to. Robin Hood and Romans are on the list. The Marines are very interesting and a good choice by K&C. Robin.

A blast from the past, the Marines are running out at $39, now that's affordable. Robin.

What a spectacular batch of releases with perfect timing as the Chicago show is looming later this month.

And speaking of spectacular, that Tarawa diorama is just off the charts incredible.

WOW.

"Send in the Marines" indeed.......................

DD305 “Searching For Pvt. Ryan “Set #1
“SAVING PRIVATE RYAN” is a very special war drama film for many of us history movie buffs and especially so for myself and K&C.

Back in 1997, through a Hollywood friend and fellow collector, I heard about a big new D.Day movie that was already being filmed in Britain and Ireland by none other than Steven Spielberg. At the time all we knew was that it featured American paratroopers and U.S. Rangers and was centered around Normandy and Omaha Beach.

And so, K&C produced some of its very first American D.Day soldiers which began our entire D.Day range which continues to this day.

Journey forward quite a few years to when we met Capt. Dale Dye U.S.M.C. ret’d., the military advisor on ‘Ryan’ and countless other great war movies and discussions about doing a special ‘tribute’ to a fantastic movie and the real ‘heroes of D.DAY’.

This 4-figure set (the first of 2) features the perilous journey through the fields and bocage of German-occupied Normandy to try and find PFC James Ryan , 101st Airborne.

Capt. John Millar, 2nd Rangers takes the lead carrying his Thompson sub machine gun.
Backing him up is PFC Reiben with the BAR ( Browning Automatic Rifle). Next to him is Cpl. Upham, not a Ranger but an interpreter borrowed from another unit. The final member of this first 4-man squad is Pvt. Jackson, a left-handed sniper holding his bolt action M1903 Springfield with telescopic sight.

All four men will be joined next month (October) by our second ‘Searching for Pvt. Ryan’ set which includes Sgt. Mike Horvath, Pvt. Mellish, Medic Irwin Wade and PFC Caparzo ...

Don’t miss out on a terrific movie and ... 2 x outstanding sets of D.Day soldiers!

AVAILABLE: Mid September

Post Script: Also on show in Chicago!

I Really like the "Saving Private Ryan" sets ......Great idea and @ $159.00 per set a Great price point. Same goes for the Marine figures
looking very sharp as well @ $39.00 a figure ! The FOB Horse drawn cart can be used with sitting WWII figures that are already available.

I was also expecting to turn on the PC and place an order for some Japanese peddling up the highway .... but to my tremendous surprise ...{sm4} {sm4}{sm3}
US MARINES. YES!

You asked if had legs?
Well, I have to believe that it will have a many legs as 10,000 centipedes scurrying to their local toy soldier dealer to place there order for the newest USMC sets.
Hopefully that will include diorama features like that pillbox, landing craft, palm trees and more .... very exciting!

What a great surprise. I know what I will be bringing back from Chicago ... George, we are going to need a bigger van!

I believe the marines are another very cheap range...well done Andy..and i love them! :)

Great looking set. But I would ask "Where is Pvt Ryan?" Will he be joining later? Chris

Great link Wayne. I remember as a kid in the 1950's buying packs and canteens at the Army Surplus store. The web gear came in a variety of colors from sand to dark green depending on where and when it was made. 1911 Colt holsters were both Brown Leather and Green Web. My British 455 Webley holster and belt is Tan Web. The Webbing material seems to last forever!

A number of excellent releases this month. My particular favourite is NA396 "Saving His Officer". Well done K&C!

Great Month for releases, comments,

Marines - not my interest, but know a lot of people who do collect this theatre and will be very happy. The long term benefit for me [and this is getting 2 + 2 and making 9] could be a new range of vehicles for the Marines and one could be a new Buffalo. Which means a chance of a European theatre Buffalo, I can hope.

Saving Private Ryan - not into the film range, but will look to buy as they will make a great generic US Normandy patrol.

AK Sets, the Panzerjager - I have the first one, so doubt I will buy this one, not sure the other vehicle, Pz.Kpfw. 35R(F) Self-Propelled Gun, did serve with any unit in the Western Desert? But I am ready to be proved wrong, I thought they virtually all drove the vehicles into the ground in Russia, with those left going to second line and training units. I have seen pictures of some damaged Pz.Kpfw. 35R(F) in Normandy in 1944,

FOB Cart - looks like the cart from the BR range, which I have, do not collect this range but the old one goes well with the Napoleonic range [without the figure]. Will look to get this one as like and collect this range, will get it with the figure, couple of things on the figure. Do not think the figure would make much sense without the horse and secondly will someone tell her she can put her suitcase in the wagon.

MK - yes as always.

Nap - possibly, do collect but not one of my main ranges, look great thou.

Romans and Robin Hood ranges, look great but do not collect.

Generally - as said at the beginning, this months releases look great. Noticed, and there has been some other re-releases painted different for another theatre or era. think this is a good idea and does open new possibilities.

2. BEING RETIRED...
Not that many retirements this month... Grab them while you can.

WH044 Arnhem Ambush!
WH045 Lying Dead German Officer

And that, is that for one more month... So, I hope there is something (or somethings) for you as a collector or dealer... If not, well there’s always October...!

Looking forward to meeting some of you in ‘The Windy City’ or at least Schaumburg in a few weeks time.

If you are going... stop by our room 4301 at the Hyatt Regency, Woodfield, and take a look in and say hello.

Very best wishes and happy collecting!

Hi George, hi Guys,
Many thanks for the appreciative comments on the new September releases! It's always great for the whole K&C team to see how much their collective work is valued.Thankyou.

Now, onto the 'TARAWA' diorama...In the pic shown you only see about 2/3 of the beachfront...There's the final 1/3 on the right where another brand-new 'LVT' will appear along with more Marines...
We're still waiting for the first casting from the factory so we can 'master-paint' it and bring it to Chicago!

Talking of Marines...We have designed and carved almost 30 different 'Leathernecks' in action for this initial batch of releases which will begin to appear this September and in the upcoming months. There are some great, original poses which I hope many of you will like also.

Back to the diorama to finish...The 'sunken, knocked-out Sherman' is our very own plastic D.Day one...The 'abandoned AMTRAC' is the old BMC one which in turn was based on K&C's polystone LVT from our first 'Iwo Jima' series released back, I think, in 1998.

Being a former Marine myself I have always admired the USMC and their exploits. This is King & Country's tribute in miniature to them!

All the very best guys...and have a great weekend! Andy.

All the best and happy collecting! Andy.

An outstanding looking release!!! love the whole format of this new release, I'll be in Chicago and would love to pick these fine fellows up and maybe get Dave at TM Terrain to build a small diorama (like the ruined church tower) to use them in, congrats to Andy and K&C for a great idea.
