Kirk Douglas RIP (1 Viewer)

So many memorable roles like Spartacus, Col. Dax, Doc Holliday, van Gogh, Col. Jiggs Casey and Mickey Marcus, and the brilliant Jack Burns. RIP, Mr. Douglas. -- Al

Sad to see him pass, brilliant actor and seemed to be a every day guy too.
I own copy of Paths Of Glory and will probably watch it this weekend.

One of my favorites. RIP. So many movies but the ones that stand out are The Bad and the Beautiful, Paths of Glory and Last Train from Boot Hill. I also liked the Arrangement by Elia Kazan. Farewell my friend.

My favorite movie with Kirk Douglas would have to be THE VIKINGS .....

I saw this as a kid, and the particular scene that 'got me' was the viking funeral, as the burning long ship drifted out into the fiord, and Einar (Kirk) sailed off to enter Valhalla.

The Final Countdown. Not a classic but a decent military movie. Gave the Navy some great exposure.

Yes, we lost another great one.
I just watched The Vikings a few days ago and it brought back childhood memories. Kirk and Ernest Borgnine were great, Tony Curtis not so great.

He had so many good movies it's hard to pick one but I guess "Vikings" would be it.It was Richard Conte's favorite too. "HAIL RAGNAR"

Aside from his movie performances, he should also be remembered for being one of the first to defy the Blacklist and openly hiring Dalton Trumbo to write the screenplay for Spartacus.

Very sad to hear of his passing.
My favorite movie with Kirk, in a staring role is … "In HARMS WAY"

What a great movie loaded with stars like John Wayne, Patricia Neal, Henry Fonda, Dana Andrews, Paula Prentiss, Burgess Meredith, James Mitchem and so many more.

Best Lines from the movie:

"Old Rock of Ages, we've got ourselves another war. A gut bustin', mother-lovin' Navy war."
"Well, we all know the Navy's never wrong. But in this case, it was a little weak on bein' right."[SUB][SUP]

"On the most exalted throne in the world, we are seated on nothing but our own arse."
"All battles are fought by scared men who'd rather be someplace else."

In Harms Way and The Final Countdown are my favourites, some great action. I remember the F-14 Tomcat nearly pancake into the ocean while toying with the Zero. By coincidence I watched a documentary of the movie last week where they interviewed the actual Navy pilots that performed the scenes in the movie, apparently he wasn't as close to sea level as it looked, well that's what he told the ships Captain :wink2:

And especially he should be remembered for leaving all his belongings to his foundation for the needy, the unfortunates and the poor children..
