Checked the JJD website today, and the SOLD OUT list continues to grow:

ACE-01P, His Last Cigarette
ACE-02, Nieuport 17 (Bishop)
ACE-03, Fokker DR1 (Jacobs)
ACE-03P, Lt Josef Jacobs
ACE-04, Sopwith Camel (MacLaren)
ACE-04P, Capt D.R. MacLaren
ACE-05P, Lothar von Richthofen
ACE-11, Fokker DR1 (Kempf)
ACE-12P, Lt Charles Nungesser
ACE-14P, Capt William Barker
ACE-BP, British Pilots
ACE-GP, Fokker Pilots
ACE-X, Baron von Santa <GULP>! {eek3}
GCC-01, German Ground Crew 1
BGC-01, Model-T Ford Ambulance

Many of the items above are still available via dealer, BTW. There's no need to panic, if you're light on a piece or two that you fancy. On the other hand, some of them are nowhere to be found at this point. The Kempf Triplane comes to mind in that regard.

Don't intend to seem immodest in quoting myself, but I thought that it might be useful to update the SOLD OUT list:

ACE-04, Sopwith Camel (MacLaren)
ACE-04P, Capt D.R. MacLaren
ACE-05P, Lothar von Richthofen
ACE-09, Fokker DVII (Goring)
ACE-11, Fokker DR1 (Kempf)
ACE-12P, Lt Charles Nungesser
ACE-14P, Capt William Barker
ACE-16(S), SPAD XIII (Rickenbacker)
ACE-19(S), Fokker DR1 (Weiss)
ACE-BP, British Pilots
ACE-GP, Fokker Pilots
ACE-X, Baron von Santa <GULP>! {eek3}
GCC-01, German Ground Crew 1
BGC-01, Model-T Ford Ambulance

The new additions are in Bold Print, BTW. The DVII comes as no suprise, given it's generous period of availability. However, the Rickenbacker and Weiss models haven't been with us for very long at all. As stated previously, some of these items are still to be found in shops or on the after-market. Others are MUCH harder to find!:redface2: And, as also stated previously, when JJD posts items as SOLD OUT, he's not making any more of them.

Jack's SE-5 got me to thinking about the JJD aircraft that have been produced. We have multiples of the triplane, N-17, Camel, Albatros, and I know another Spad is on the way. That leaves us with single productions of the D-7 and the SE-5. The D-7 single production is understandable because of color scheme problems relating to the lozenge camouflage that the D-7 carries. What I don't understand is the single SE-5. Along with the Camel, the SE-5 is the most important fighter that the RFC/RAF flew during the war. There are dozens of famous flyer/marking schemes among the SE-5 that could be done, yet we only have one, the Mannock version. The SE-5 done by JJD is, in my opinion, the finest model that JJD has done to date. The detail is simply second to none. I would love to see some more SE-5's come out of the JJD production facilities. Just for starters I would like to see James McCudden's SE-5 #B4863, with his 'G' letter marking that he was flying with B Flight of 56 Squadron when the engagement with Werner Voss occurred in September, 1917. Not having McCudden represented by a JJD aircraft is a huge hole as far as I'm concerned. Other well known aces include such names as Beauchamp Proctor, Dallas, Bowman, McElroy, Rhys Davids, Springs, Jones, and the list just goes on. Some more versions of the excellent JJD SE-5 would be 'must haves' for me. ^&grin -- Al

Hi Al,

I'm certainly in for another S.E.5, but I'd also like to see something completely new. Every time that I come across an image of JJD "the duelist" set, I think that there must be an early-war model in the works. Time will tell, I suppose.

I'm a little surprised at the new additions to the SO list. Not so much with the D-7, which, as mentioned, has been available for a while, but very much so with the Rickenbacker Spad and especially the Weiss tripe. I thought that the Rickenbacker Spad would be really popular considering the subject matter, being a US flyer, the colorful camo and marking scheme. The fact that the Weiss tripe, the 6th tripe to be done and a relatively unknown flyer, is SO this fast really catches me by surprise. Perhaps the whole series continues to gain popularity and this is a not so unusual occurrence for future aircraft. {sm2} -- Al

Hi Al,

The new additions to the list also reverse a previously established trend. In the past, pilot figures have tended to sell out before their associated aircraft replica. Above we see three models selling out BEFORE the pilot figure in question. In the case of the Weiss tripe, the accompanying figure has yet to see the light of day. Interesting.

Hi Moe.
Yeah, I agree. Makes me wonder if the KotS aircraft are currently being produced in smaller numbers than before. May call for a change in buying strategy, if so. Might be smarter to grab the new stuff as it comes out, then back-fill. Of course, back-filling assumes an older model will still be around, and many of them are not. I don't know. I just try to keep up with the aircraft as they come out. Just keeping up with the aircraft is a task and it has made buying the extras, like the hangers and groundcrew, a real problem for me. -- Al

Captain Eddie arrived yesterday to take his place next to his Spad. All looks correct now. Nice figure.:smile2: -- Al

Hi Al,

The figure in the picture below (and the one in my display) appears to be slightly tilted/cocked to it's left:

ACE16P.jpg

Gravity being the unforgiving force that it is, could it be that JJD intended the figure to be leaning against something, an aircraft wing or fuselage perhaps?

BTW, I'm not suggesting that the figure is unstable on its base. One way or the other, it's a nice figure.:salute::

Hi Moe. The figure has a slight slouch to it as someone does when standing with one leg relaxed. Very steady. Very natural pose. -- Al

Found a couple of good pics of Rickenbacker:

In reference to the second image, IMO, Jenkins ought to get some kind of award for his likeness of "Captain Eddie." It really is outstanding. Perhaps he'll someday cast and embellish a "Desert Fox" figure. Until then...:wink2::)

Enough with this "IMO" bidness, our readers demand a pic of JJ's Captain Eddie:

Looking at the list today. Kind of scary how many are now Sold Out and such.
Out of 18 issued aircraft, 7 are now gone, SO, with 2 more listed as Out of Stock.
Sold Out Aircraft
Ace 02- Bishop's Nieuport
Ace 03- Jacob's Triplane
Ace 04- MacLaren's Camel
Ace 09- Goering's Fok. D-7
Ace 11- Kempf's Triplane
Ace 16- Rickenbacker's Spad
Ace 19- Weiss' Triplane
The 2 von Richthofen Triplanes, Ace 01 and Ace 05, are both listed Out of Stock.
Ever lower in numbers are the pilots that go with the aircraft. Out of 16 issued pilot figures, 6 are now listed as Sold Out and 8 others are listed as Low Inventory.
Sold Out Pilots
Ace 01 - Manfred von Richthofen
Ace 03 - Jacobs
Ace 04 - MacLaren
Ace 05 - Lothar von Richthofen
Ace 12 - Nungesser
Ace 14 - Barker
Low Inventory Pilots
Ace 02 - Bishop
Ace 06 - Ball
Ace 07 - Lowenhardt
Ace 08 - Mannock
Ace 09 - Goering
Ace 11 - Kempf
Ace 15 - Udet
Ace 17 - Fromhherz
The reason there are only 16 pilots is the very basic reason that there is no pilot, yet, for the last 2 Triplane releases, Weiss and Steinhaus.er. Interesting that the pilot figures are disappearing faster than the aircraft. Obviously, these are just the listings at the JJD website and do not reflect the inventory held by dealers. Still, best not to dally if you really want an item on the endangered species list.:wink2: -- Al

Put off buying Baron von Santa from Sierra until The Photographer arrived (so that I could get free shipping). Apparently, Santa didn't want his picture taken because he's now departed, at least, that is, from the retail market. Darn. :redface2:

Anyone gotten the Steinhauser triplane yet? It looks a very attractive aircraft with a very striking tailplane marking. I have one on order but it is several days away. Any critiques of it? -- Al

Hi Al,
Yes it is a strikingly painted aircraft. Not much more to say really, but I think you'll be pleased with it.

Thanks for the response, Pete. To be honest, I have never met a JJD aircraft that I didn't love. I'm hopelessly addicted to the JJD aircraft, the triplanes especially so. John just makes such great choices in the color schemes. -- Al

Hi Al,
Yes I agree totally. I wonder if there is just one more tripe to come (Its been mentioned). They seem to be quick sellers, but I'm not sure if that is because of a lower production number. I wonder if he'll get round the 'lozenge' problem? I'd love to see some pusher aircraft! Have you got any flight stands? They do add another dimension to displaying them.

I just need the 'Maus' and I'm up to date...until the next one is released!

I hope there are at least 2 more tripes to come. In addition to the hinted at Jasta 11 plane, I would love to see the Voss triplane F1 103/17 done. I would like to see the nose in yellow, although I know it is unproven and could have been factory olive or even black in color.
Don't know if any progress has been made on the lozenge problem. Last time I mentioned it, John hinted that he was so busy that he had not had time to work at it. John has an interest in the pusher aircraft but don't know where that will lead.
I don't have any stands yet. Wish I did, but my money keeps going into the aircraft themselves.
I think you will like the Blue Maus. The color is quite stunning in person. Looks much better than in the photos. -- Al

Got mine today, Pete, and you are quite right, I am very pleased with it. A very nice paint scheme. The dark camo is a great background to the red and yellow personal markings. The colors really snap. I like the darker camo look to this particular aircraft and also the subtle toning down of the personal markings evident on the underside of the aircraft. This is a very worthy addition to Jasta 11.^&cool -- Al
