Excellent! What figure have you used? -- Al

Hi Al,

I used a half figure from the ACE-BP2 (with white flowing scarf) removed the head and replaced it with the head from the standing Albert Ball figure.

An expensive option, but like you I wanted Albert in the cockpit!

Cheers,

Roy

Thanks, Roy. It is quite the generous prize and I was very fortunate to receive it. It is a very colorful model.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Thanks in part to a Treefrog Treasures gift certificate I received from my daughter for Father's Day, ACE-31, Lt. Franz Ray's Jasta 49 Albatros DIII with the Lozenge pattern camo, landed at my German aerodrome this morning. The model is fantastic looking and far better than shown in previous catalog photos. The camo pattern is amazing and I just could not be happier with it. I believe this will become my favorite JJD WWI airplane out of the 14 that I have in my collection. Those of you that have it ordered or are planning to purchase it will not be disappointed. And on top of this, there was a Golden Ticket in the box, my fourth to date. Kudos :salute:: to John for delivering on another great offering . . . .

Congratulations, Mike. That is spectacular. The new Albatros and a Golden Ticket. I am going to get the new Albatros as soon as I can and to hear that it is better in person than the photos show is even better news. JJD keeps upping his quality. Just when you think it can't get any better...it does! -- Al

Sanke cards are great, expert photos. Schiffer books has published a comprehensive, 4 volume study of the Sanke cards that is over 1500 pages in total. I own a Sanke card #532 of Manfred von Richthofen but it is the only one I own. They can get expensive. -- Al

It has been revealed at the Chicago show that JJD currently has 5 versions of the Fokker D-7 in production or slated for production. This is great news, and long awaited by many who wanted more versions of the D-7. The D-7 model had been held up by the necessity of solving the lozenge camo problem, as virtually every D-7 made was covered in this fabric by the factories producing the plane. With the release of the Ray Albatros, it was apparent that John had solved the problem, and it was only to be a matter of time before the D-7's appeared in number. Well, they are on the way. Along with the new Sopwith Tripe, the Ray Albatros, and the coming release of the Boeing F4b, there is more than enough aircraft coming to us to keep even the most demanding aircraft model collector busy, and happy. Now all I have to do is talk my wife into boxing up all that unused china and letting me have the resulting empty china cabinet. That should be easy.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Hah, how's this for a "feast of famine" deal Al? We waited all this time for a new D.VII and now there are five of them in the pipeline. I have two concerns for the new models, regardless of the associated pilot or the livery.

First, I hope that each and every one of them has the fitting for a stand. The D.VII replica has a pretty good sized display footprint, and my curios need all the help that a nice stand can afford them.

Second, I'm going to have to give up volunteer work and once again seek renumeration for my labors. That's the only way that I'll ever be able to pay for the five of them AND purchase what will no doubt be additional display space.:redface2:

Hey, though, I love a challenge!:D

My one concern is selfish and involves money. I hope that they are released in a reasonably spread out fashion in terms of a 2 months or so gap between each release. My space problem is unsolvable at this point. I will have to box the last shelves of TS I have on display to make room for a few more aircraft. -- Al

With the upcoming/future releases of some 5 new Fokker D-7's the subject of whether Werner Voss might have flown one was raised on another thread. Voss was killed in combat in September, 1917, in a Fokker triplane, during his very famous combat against 56 Squadron, RFC. The first Fokker D-7's didn't arrive at the front until May, 1918, obviously several months after Voss was KIA. For this same reason, Manfred von Richthofen also never flew the Fok.D-7 in combat. MvR was KIA on April 21. 1918, literally just days before the D-7's started arriving. MvR was involved with the Fok.D-7 in terms of test flying it during fighter trials and he was highly enthusiastic about it and it's eventual deployment. He would have received one of the first D-7's had he not been killed. -- Al

I picked up the Steinhauser from John last night. It's a beauty and any lack of show is down to me and the camera 😂

John very kindly showed me the master pictures of the upcoming KotS and I can promise some complete stunners including some camo patterns that will blow minds. Won't say anymore as it'd be improper, but we all need to save those pennies (although I totally forgot to ask timescales)

In the meantime, here's last night's purchase;

Hi Vicknor,

Thanks for the update on KotS production and pics of the model and pilot sets. Can't wait for a look at the new stuff.:D BTW, did you notice the hole in Teddy?

I've kust know turned on the computer and I have learned something new already. I've had Steinhauser for months and never saw the teddy wounds before. Another example of the detail John puts into his products. My old eyes just aren't as efficient as they used to be as I seem to miss finer details like this more often these days.:redface2:
Vicknor, thanks for the intel and congratulations on the new triplane. -- Al

Interesting Moe, does this figure have historical reference?
