Lakers and Celtics (3 Viewers)

Caught the last half and, man, were the refs making some bad calls on the Celtics. Home court advantage

SHHHH, careful Brad, don't state the obvious.....

At one point, the Lakers had 37 foul shots vs 17 for the Celtics.

Had to love it when Kobe had 5 fouls and was back in the game and I bet my friend 50.00 he wouldn't foul out; when he hacked Allen on the two on one with no call, I thought my friend was going to blow a head gasket.

Easiest 50.00 I ever won.

Trust me, it will go the other way at home for the Celtics, that's how it works.

Thank God for Ray Allen; without him, this thing is 0-2 as Pierce and Garnett have been two no shows.

If either or both show up, they've got a great shot at this; if either does not, can't see how they can pull it off.

Oh, and if Shelton Williams sees the court again this series, I'll have one of my cousins kneecap him, not one but TWO boneheaded plays back to back to allow the Lakers to get right back into the game.

And I was wrong about Gasol, he's one tough hombre, the way he leveled Perkins (no hard foul there refs?) and forearmed Pierce before attempting his second free throw late in the game (he bricked the first one and was probably testy at that point); yep, one tough dude. He's got Fosbury beat on the flops too, he's the flop master..................

Have scored tickets for games 3 and 4, get to see all of this up close and personal now, outstanding, will be leaving shortly to get primed at several of the watering holes around the Gahden, maybe I'll run into Phil..........

I cannot believe all the fouls Rondo got away with...the referees tried their best to give it to the Celtics...I was gonna call the Commissioner and tell him the fix was in...:D

even the ABC announcers were surprised at all the breaks the Celtics were getting on bad calls...

well...I guess that's homecourt advantage...all the calls went their way but sometimes it's not enough...

I'm glad the Lakers are at least gonna make a series out of it...glad they got homecourt advantage back...

Thank God for Ray Allen...without him this thing is 2-1...

0 for 13...wow...

ESPN said his shooting percentage was only 1 miss away from breaking an all time NBA record...

he's a record breaking machine...

River's said on ESPN he has never seen that kind of swing in a player...

when he doesn't break the all time NBA game record for made 3 pointers in a full game (in just 2 quarters)...it sure makes a difference...

This quote was in the Yahoo Marc Spears column yesterday...

“We ain’t coming back to L.A.!”

Pierce yelled in the final moments of the Celtics’ Game 2 victory.

was he saying they were gonna sweep the Lakers and win in 5 games...

well...he's gotta come back to L.A....

I hope the Lakers survive the trip out of the Gahden...

2008 the Celt fans threw rocks at their bus...

and that's after they won...now that's some quality fans...

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=mc-finalsadvantage060810

okay...Celts gonna have their game face on Thursday...gonna be some extra hard fouls from them...

Just got home from the game, what a letdown, Ray Allen giveth, Ray Allen taketh away, he won the game the other night, lost it tonight.

Looked like the Celtics were going to run the Lakers right out of the building up 12-5, then the super genious/greatest coach in the history of sports calls a time out, settles his troops down, they go on a huge run and the Celtics were behind the eight ball the rest of the night. Cut it to one, that is as close as they got, boneheaded turnovers and horrible shooting by Allen killed them.

Gasol, Bynam, Artest were pretty much non factors tonight, but naturally, Odom, who hasn't done squat all series long, comes through, someone always seems to come through for the Lakers, they are incredibly annoying, what can you say.

And Fisher is a royal pain in the @#$, he came up big in the 4th quarter.

Right back at it Thursday night.

Gee Mike, you sure have a lot to say after a Lakers win, I heard crickets chirping from Texas after the loss Sunday............

Pierce shot his mouth off, so did Gasol, he said Garnett lost a step after game one; did he look like he lost a step tonight Mike? Gasol had no answer for Garnett, why Doc sat him for long stretches in beyond me, he was on fire and he sits the guy down, what a moronic move that was.

Wallace gave Gasol fits all night too, put a body on him and he wilts.

The Celtics need to take the next two games, cannot go back to LA down 3-2, that is not going to work out well for them.................

Awwwwww..come on man...I'm basking in the moment...

I don't know about the crickets in Texas George...but I bet they were chirping in L. A. tonight...ya'll got crickets in Boston...

I don't remember you being as humble as you think you were...hehehe...

or quiet either...

L.A. fans were "fruitloops"...Odom's couldn't afford a good seat for his wife...Gasol was still ugly...the Lakers got all the fouls calls...and don't forget the Fosbury Flop...

lighten up partner...you got what my dad referred to as a "convenient memory"...

by the way...how was that drink with Phil...jk...:D

George...I love you like the brother I never wanted...no, no, no...just kidding...I swear to God...I really look forward to your posts...I mean that sincerely...you're biased...but your are knowledgeable...I'll give you that...it's a great series...I fully expect the Celts to handle the Lakers Thursday...I didn't think the Lakers stood a chance tonight...the Celts had a bad night...they will make adjustments and recover...nobody is going into the Garden and take two in a row from them...nobody...bet the bank on that...also...I'm really starting to think home court isn't such an advantage at this level...I genuinely like Boston, I do, but I like L.A. more...we're just having fun "busting each other's"....right...it will be your turn to gloat Thursday...fair enough...I'll check for your post immediately after the game...

Bottom line is the Lakers are a better team and have played better in this series, period. Nobody had the Celtics in the finals; the whole world had the Lakers.

Had several "discussions" with Laker fans last night before, during and after the game; classy bunch. One guy had a Kobe jersey with the price tag still hanging off of it; guess if they somehow lose, he can return it.

Their triple towers of Gasol, Bynam and Artest are grabbing all the rebounds, blocking shots, (Gasol blocked a three point shot by Allen last night), blocking out Perkins (aka, stone hands; never seen a big man with worse hands and who always has to dribble after the catch, just dunk the ball), who has played terrible.

I hope he gets a technical so he has to sit out a game.

Fisher is hitting big shots, Kobe is being Kobe, all the talk about how Rondo would give him fits and Allen would torch Fisher really hasn't happened. Rondo has been unable for the most part to drive to the basket, too many big bodies in his way, he's not the same in this series as he was in the last three during this playoff run.

The Lakers seem to want it more, getting rebounds, second and third chance shots, hounding the Celtics and forcing turnovers, getting their !@#es handed to them in 2008 has lit a fire with them.

There has not been a game yet where the Celtics have been firing on all levels, Garnett and Pierce basically stunk in games 1 and 2, Allen and Rondo were on fire in game 2, then Allen disappeared in game 3, Garnett was on fire, Pierce hit a couple of threes but was once again a non factor. Had Allen not played the game of his playoff life Sunday, they'd be down 0-3 right now.

The only chance they have is for all 5 to be on the same page and on fire or else forget it.

I said originally Lakers in 6, they go home up 3-2 and close it out in game six, then they can drop those balloons that have been sitting up in the ceiling since 1969.

The Celtics have lost their mojo, maybe they burnt themselves out vs King James and Superman.

Too bad, this is this groups last shot, while the Lakers with Kobe, Artest, Byham, Gasol and whoever (Fisher will probably walk next year) will be right back in the finals next year.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

George...

both teams starting five...are playing like I hit the clubs in my golf bag...

not all at once...

one day I crush my driver straight down the middle...but can't hit my irons...

the next day if my putter is hot...I can't hit my fairway woods...

if both teams ever gel...and all 10 starters show up...

Wow...it's gonna be a battle...

I know you said titles are the true measure...

but honestly...

I would think Celtics fan would consider this a very successful year...

knocking off the Magic and the Cavs must have been a pleasant span of b-ball...

again...I'm thinking the 3-2-2 system is too favorable a format for the best record team...but home court may not play that big a role when the teams are this good...already at least splitting visits...

did you know that Auerbach was the person responsible for introducing this format...

anyway...rub it in hard on Thursday...hahaha...that's you win for sure...

I just spoke to Fred H. and your name came up...I told him I want a Red Auerbach t-shirt...:D

Mike,
The Lakers played great in game 1, battled all game long in game 2 and nearly pulled it out, and gutted out a win last night.

That is what great teams do, they win even though as you said, not everyone is on the same page.

The Celtics should have won that game last night and by that I mean they should have kept the momentum going, put pressure on the Lakers, etc, etc, but they did not, give the Lakers credit, they came here and took the momentum right back from the Celtics.

And you are also right in that when it gets to this stage, home court really means nothing, the two best teams going head to head, the Celtics road record is better than their home record anyway.

I'd love for this to go seven, but the only way that happens is if the Celtics go back to LA up 3-2 and sorry, I don't see them winning the next two games, they'll go back there down 3-2 and that's all she wrote.

And lastly, you are right in that this season is a gimme as nobody in Boston gave them a chance vs the Cadavors, winning that series was a shocker, getting to the finals a bonus.

Sometimes, winning it all is not the true measure of a successful season..................and Red was wrong, 2-3-2 stinks.

George...

this is the guy I was telling you about today...

Brian Oldfield...

he fought like 10 cops when they arrested him at my place...

they beat him with sticks and he laughed...he really scared me...

they couldn't get the cuffs around his wrists...

or his arms to stretch behind his back...his chest was too big...

when he grabbed me...I almost wet myself...lol...

my Dad told me I should of grabbed him by the neck and choked him out...but he didn't have a neck...swear to God...his head just kind of sat on top his chest...man...I didn't want no part of him...he was a brute...
mean too...my Dad never saw how big this guy was til we saw him again on tv...then he just said "OMG"...

I think I was wrong...he was not an Olympic Champion...but held records in shot put, discus and javelin...

he used to compete in those Highland games (pick up big trees and throw them), the World's Strongest Man Competition and Superstars...

we saw him one day on the World's Strongest Man Competition in an event where they ran 100 yards...with a refrigerator on their back...hehehe...for real...

I think that 32 would of just made him mad unless I shot him in the eye...

my friend I told you about...the bouncer...he was a big tough guy...Oldfield knocked him unconscious with one punch...I bet he threw a hard punch with all that shot put training...

Mike,
Thanks for the phone call today, loved your stories, very comical stuff, ran into some real nitwits working at the club I told you about, nothing like this guy, a grade A freakshow he is for sure.

Loved those strongest men competitions; "And for our next event, Lars from Finland will lead it off as he attempts to throw 12 pianos back to back off the ground up into a second story window without giving himself a doule hernia in the process"...............

Watched the game today as I DVR'd it before I left last night. The refs are terrible this series, just terrible. It seems like every game, they pick on one guy from each team; Allen, Artest, Kobe, Garnett, Pierce, Rondo so far, I think Gasol and Perkins are next next tomorrow night, just terrible, two physical teams, let them play already.

Good luck the rest of the way out, can't see how the Lakers don't win this, the Celtics offense at this point is either down low to Garnett or a jump shot from Ray Allen, he of the 0-13 result last night, Rondo cannot penetrate, Pierce is uselss, Perkins has hands of cement and Wallace has a bum back, he will probably be limited to 10 to 12 minutes per game for as long as the series lasts according to the talking heads on the radio up here in Boston.

I like big baby off the bench, he has a nice touch as you said for a big man.

And the best part is after this is all over, NFL camps open in about a month thank God..........if I were you, I'd lay dough on the Celtics tomorrow and the Lakers on Sunday, but if you lose, you didn't hear that from me.

And for anyone who thinks we are seriously battling here and not busting each others chops, they put 2 and 2 together and got 22 instead of 4.

So relax people........

With all due respect for the great Celtics team and their fans
GO LAKERS

Paulo

The scary thing about this series is that Kobe is playing on another level and it's not having much impact on the outcome. The guy is like Jerry West who won the MVP in a losing effort in 1969. The Celts are double and triple teaming him early. He needs to somehow drive to the hoop - get fouled or dish to the open guys. Right now he is just forcing jump shots and even though many are going in it's not helping much. Not getting fouled, low shooting percentage as a result. I'm still hopeful the Lakers bring a lot energy tonight and get a win.

The Lakers will win tonight, the refs will give them all the calls and on to game 7, which is what the league wants, so what they want, they get, the fix is in.

Bynam being hurt has killed the Lakers, Gasol is not the same player without Bynam in there.

I was waiting all series long for Kobe to go off and have a monster game, which he did, but it did not matter; Kobe, like D Wade, King James and Superman, cannot beat the Celtics by himself.

The Lakers have ZERO bench, amazing that they got the finals with that God awful bench, Phil has to go with his starters, Gasol is gassed, playing 45 minutes a game.

Artest and Odom have been terrible.

It is right there for the Celtics to win, I am so proud of this group, perhaps my favorite Celtics team of all time, and that's saying something considering all of the great teams they've had.

Win or lose, they've impressed the Hell out of me.

The Lakers, aside from game one, have not; if Allen wasn't ICE cold in game 3, this thing would have ended in five......................

The Lakers are running out of chances...

too many sub performances on that team...

Kobe said yesterday...

“Listen, if you told me at the beginning of the year that we’ve got two games at home to win a championship, yeah, I’ll take that [bleep].”

"maybe" Kobe is comfortable with this scenario...but I don't think the rest of the team is...

gonna need some high energy tonight from his supporting cast...

somebody better step up...

I hope I get to "enjoy" the game...:D

Game 6 was no contest. Game 7 (as George says, What the NBA always wanted) should be a good one. Both teams will have to bring their best game to win. Neither team is good enough to win without top effort from all concerned so the game should be an old fashioned barn burner. Who will get to brag? Lakers win #16 or Celtics win #18. This is how it should be. -- Al

If the Lakers lose game 7 that will be a crusher. Boston can walk away with a loss and consider it a good run. The pressure is on LA. A close game favors Boston. These games played after a blowout are dangerous. For whatever reason, the blowout winner usually comes out flat. Anyway a classic matchup. Anyone unfamiliar with the epic Laker woes against Boston in games 7 should take a look at the '62, '69, and '84 recaps to understand how big this game is for them:

The Celtics were a no show on both ends of the floor last night and for a veteran team, there is no excuse for that.

They played like they had a game to lose and live another day, the Lakers played like their season was over if they lost and the result showed that.

Artest, Odom and Gasol looked superhuman last night, all three stunk out the joint in Boston.

As Doug said, teams that get blown out/blow out a team usually come out just the opposite the next game, so we'll see.

We'll see how the Celtics respond to the dunks, alley-oops, three point shots up by 21 and other various in your face moments, would rather see them lose like that than lose a close game, if that embarassment last night does not motivate them, nothing will.

Their bench outscored the Celtic bench 24-0 at one point.

If Perkins can't go, that is huge.

It's put up or shut up time now.
