Love the displays and thanks for the pictures! Just one question- why do you have many multiples of command pieces like the flag bearer, officer, and sergeant?
-Sandor

Hello Sandor!

Good question with many answers, I guess.

First, I love the sets and the poses that Andy created. As I have shown (hopefully) you can take a figure and completely change the action by having him doing something differnet. So a sergeant in one pose can be made to point to an action, hold a box, hold a flag, pat someone on the shoulder, be opening a door and more.

Second, I hope to have a large Army in while they will be needed, to command the troops. Is it technically accurate ??, of course not, but the fun thing is that they are TOY soldiers and in my displays, I am going more for look, presentation, appeal and action rather than 100% accurate squads, companies, regiments and such composition. You know it, I know it (somewhat) but the folks who come and see the displays don't and their reaction is wonderful.

Third, is interest. If I had to just get one Flag Bearer, one Sergeant, one Officer and such, than the display would be small and not as attractive as seeing 150 French figures romping about the battle field. Yes, you can have many Standing / Firing and Kneeling / Ready but I wanted to have a lot of action occuring and many little stories going on. So I have ten Officers but they (symbolize) all ranks of command. IF ANDY made 10 - 15 different officer grades and differnet flags and such the need would be smaller ... but you got to go with what is available.

Fourth, I guess as a future investment?? Right now, I would rather sell my kindey than part with my AWI sets, but alas ... someday they might be needed to fund an important adventure. So when I spent $19 on a Flag Bearer (THEN) I can see a 5X figure today.

Sixth, it is FUN, FUN, FUN

I could go one but I hope you see the intention --- Larry

Nice pictures Larry, am enjoying your displays very much, really looking forward to the large battle scene as well.

Thanks for taking the time to post and keep posting in this thread so that it grows and grows..........

Brilliant Display!!! For certain periods, mass groupings really do work best!!

Many Thanks, Fraxinus ... That is what I think, maybe not to others but I am having fun. IN these photos, I am mostly showing the figures from all angles and doing different things, so YES it is a bit strange that you have 10 Offices or 10 Sergeants in a setting. When you see the BATTLEFIELD pics they will of course all be in more natural settings. So, these pic are for the folks who never seen the older sets up close and personal and for me to play and learn how to make displays and what works and what doesn't.

Any and all comments apprecited. -- Larry

Larry,

Amazing how one figure in multiples can make a great scene! You had a great idea, it is a very useful study...{sm3}

Nice to har from you Poppo. Yes that is my intent here, to do a study on how to buiold dios, to photograph them with different settings and how to make a figure appear different by what he is doing rather than just a pose. With some it is easy, i.e. Standing Shooting. That seems natural but as you have seen (and will see) you can take the same figure and change him by what you have him holding or pointing to or in reference to a "story line".

Thanks Geroge... Without you (and your patience) I would never had the ability to gather such an Army. You have made it possible by holding sets for me and by keeping an eye out for the items that I am missing. Much appreciated.

Yep, this thread will grow. -- Larry

A few more pictures for the morning coffee and jelly donut, but please don't drop the jelly on my dioramas.

Afternoon Toddy ... thank you for the encouraging comments.

Gee ... it looks like the "evil" British Redcoats are being requested with a vigor, so I guess I sorta' better get a cracking and build some displays with those sets. I have a few series already photographed so they are in line , firstbut I will have to move them up in the list.

The backdrop is one that my wife painted for me. She is in the process of doing a whole bunch with different terrain. That one, actually, was a quick 20 min paint job so could hide a few items what would detract from the scene. She has two real nice ones in the offering. She has also painted the foam building in the background for "Running with Rifle" and "Flag Bearer". It was one of those yellow foam buildings that I got at a local hobby store (Hobby Bunker / Matt)

Most of the first group of scenary is from JG / H&A / Britains and more. If you look at some of the details you will start to see items that I have built and more in upcoming pics, including a Bridge over a river that I just finished a sort time ago.

Be on the lookout for BR01 and all the early Fusiliers as well as the 10th Lincolnshire Regm't coming to a PC screen near you! -- Larry

Hello folks;
Sorry I didn't get to post more than one set yesterday, but I had some summer yard work to do and the wife kept telling me the grass is so tall that we might lose the dog. Imagine that, not realizing the deep importance of Posting pictures over something silly like cutting grass. ^&confuse :confused:

IN this diorama concept, I wanted to see how I could construct a small village as the drummers are passing thru getting "volunteers" to join the fight.

Anyway here is the next set of FRENCH AWI - DRUMMER BOY (although he never looked like a drummer "BOY" to me. -- ENJOY the parade.
