Martyn: Those without bayonets are probably from Dr. Deese's collection. He would special order NW 24 piece sets of each regiment so he would have enough to resemble a square with a command group inside and also Raj sets. When Len came to Sulphur Springs, he brought the sets from Longview so Len could cut off the bayonets. Dr. Deese had a young son and was worried about a bayonet sticking in his eye since he had them displayed on a table at home. There were 6 to 8 of these sets I think. He later had Mike Laeding sell them for him which took a while because no one was much interested then. He was asking $300 per set. Read this and weep. I remember Len commenting that was the only time he cut off the bayonets. Tommy
