Lattest Additions to Bob's Collection (2 Viewers)

Although I have been in Bob's house many times over the past 10 years, I had never gone to the back of the house past the living room because that is where his 94-year-old mother, Denise, has her bedroom. Bob insisted that I go back there and look at the bathroom. Since this was an extra bathtub, Bob permanently covered it and made it into a display space. The lighting was poor and I couldn't use my camera's flash because of the plexiglass case covering the display, but I'll attach the photos anyway. The display includes about 100 colonial India figures from Hiriart, Marlborough, Tradition, Nostalgia, and others, plus more elephants.

I am also including a photo of a younger Bob taken in the 1960s that I saw hanging in the hallway. I believe it is from either high school, Stanford, or the Claremont Colleges. I didn't apply for admission at the latter two, but I seriously doubt that I would have been accepted at either which probably good since I worked my way through UCLA and couldn't have afforded them in any case.

Thanks Mike - If I get out there, I'd love to see it.

I did purchase quite a few pieces from that auction- I was surprised how many of them were in one auction.

Looking forward to seeing you at some point in the future. I am also glad that you weren't aced out at the auction.

Here are the last four photos from Saturday. There were actually more additions to his collection that I didn't get around to photographing including 30 or 40 Richard Courtenay knights, all in the number six pose, each painted in their individual heraldry. I have never seen anything like it before.

The first photo shows King & Country English Civil War prototypes. The second photo is his (former) dining room table which now has about twice the number of British regiments and figures displayed than when he started about a year ago. Third photo is a Joe Shimek Potsdamer Zinnsoldaden dirigible, not actually displayed, but just sitting on his workbench on top of the VCR. The fourth is the group watching an hour long video set to Handel's "Water Music" featuring part of his northern California collection. Front is Gus Ramos, behind him, left to right is Ed Ruby, Bill Connolly, Mark Young, Bob Walker, Ed's caretaker, and Fred Stecker. In the background are three of the more than a dozen castles in Bob's collection.

Thank you for posting all the photos of this great collection...smiled when I saw the "Prince Valiant" art on the binder edges.

Some nice castles in the background of group photo.

I guess your battery was running low when you got to the Courtneys Mike??? I would love to see a picture of "30-40" Courtney knights - all the same pose - but painted differently. Maybe next time.................please????? :D johnnybach

These days it is more about my battery running low rather than my camera's battery. Actually, we got engrossed in talking about his collection and I got forgot to take pictures of the display. However, I may be picking up a Virginia based collector on Saturday morning during the West Coaster to take him to Bob's house to show him the collection. If I do, I'll try and remember to take my camera.
