Hi Guys,

FORT GEORGE’ is a large 18[SUP]th[/SUP] Century fortress near to the town of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands.

It was built in the aftermath of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 replacing an earlier Fort George in Inverness itself which was captured and blown up by the Jacobites in 1746.

The new ‘Fort George’ was built on a spit of land at a different location and has remained in military use since its completion in 1767.

Over the years many of the most famous old Scottish Regiments have been garrisoned there including The Black Watch.

Here we see a detachment of Black Watch exiting one of its entrance gates.

Since 2007 the Fort has been the home of the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland... formerly known as... The Black Watch...

Enjoy
!

The fortress is a visual treat, not to mention the parade exiting. So well done. Robin.

Andy,

Are you going to produce the gateway and walls for sale? For those fantastic diorama pieces, I would find room!!

I was very fortunate to spend two weeks in Scotland for my post retirement vacation last yr. Didn't make it to Ft George but did spend a day at the Black Watch Museum. Hope you can make it there another time. Chris

This is an awesome fortress, Andy! I love the architecture and your craftsmanship. It's an amazing display throughout. The stone house atop the fortress is my favorite part. I really enjoy how you are into all aspects of the hobby. Thanks again for sharing the photos of your wonderful creations.

Hi Guys,
Many thanks and much appreciation for all your kind and generous comments about my 'Fort George/Edinburgh Castle' display...

In the early days of K&C both Gordon and myself worked together designing and building all our display and diorama pieces...As the company grew I concentrated more on the figures and fighting vehicles side while my brother became the 'Master Builder' that many of you well remember.

After Gordon's recovery from his brain tumor in 2015/16 we once again began to cooperate on the design and construction of the 3 dimensional displays.

This particular one was a project that we often talked about but never quite got around to actually working on...I finally began work on it while Gordon was in hospital for the last time beginning this past October. From time to time I would take parts of the display in to show him and get his comments.

On one of the last times he studied the piece carefully from several different angles and then, handing it back to me said, "Not bad for a beginner!"...Praise indeed.

All the best and thanks once more,
Andy.

That's a wonderful story, Andy. High praise from the master indeed. Gordon's spirit moves through your work. Thank you for sharing the story and images.

Cool story! For the history buffs, there was another Fort George (now named Astoria) in Oregon (close to where I live). Here is the story: https://www.oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/fort_george/#.Xv1lEF-SmUl As you can read this one illustrates the war between the USA and GB for control of the fur trade back then in North America. The only thing that retains the name is the micro brewery in Astoria (town where the Goonies movie was shot).
