Have just taken delivery of the new ACW set WB31172 and using Mort Kunstler's painting below, of Lee, Jackson and Stuart the night before the Battle of Chancellorsville, May 1st 1863, as inspiration.........

..........came up with this interpretation albeit not a night scene. It depicts JEB Stuart bringing the startling news that Hooker's Union right flank was "in the air" and wide open for a flanking attack. Lee and Jackson planned a daring move with Jackson's II Corps undertaking a forced twelve-mile march striking from the west, while Lee would attack from the south east trapping Hooker and his army with their backs to the Rappahannock. Although a resounding victory for the South it would be Jackson's last battle as he was accidently shot by his own troops whilst reconnoitering the enemy flank and died of his wounds some days later

Included in the picture are Powell Hill & Jubal Early -both Jackson's Divisional Commanders (Early had replaced Dick Ewell who was recovering from losing his leg at Second Manassas) & 1st Corps commander at Chancellorsville- Richard Anderson instead of James Longstreet (likewise Longstreet was also absent having been sent with two of his divisions by Lee to South East Virginia to obtain supplies for the ANV).
All three DC's await with interest and anticipation for Lee & Jackson's decision.

The figures of Jackson and Stuart are very good but I particularly like the Lee pose and the dark grey colouring of his hair and beard instead of the usual snowy white seen in most figures of him. This is absolutely accurate for Chancellorsville as Lee's hair did not turn pure white until after Gettysburg when he aged considerably. Nice touch Ken you certainly know your civil war :tongue:

Superb composition of this shot, Bob. I like the center trio, but for me the real guts of the scene is all the surrounding detail/figures observing the goings on. Love the soldier with his hat resting on his rifle and the two playing with the dog. What a great scene. -- Al

Splendid scene Bob, a true masterpiece. Thanks for posting.

Wonderful scene Bob that captures the picture so well. Like Al, I'm impressed with the background detail, the various horses, HQ flag, etc. Are we heading into a new series? Chris

You've put that fancy new camera to good use Bob, fantastic detail ..... well done sir! {bravo}}

I like where your dioramas are heading, ie, recreating famous ACW themed paintings.

With great subjects out there from various artists and the huge variety of figures and terrain in your vast collection, this could be a great thing to focus on.

Not to mention the Gettysburg and Atlanta cycloramas...................:wink2:

I also like the work of Rick Reeves, he focuses on Western theater subjects, he has some great pieces on the market...............

Bob,
This is an excellent scene! Well done and thank you for sharing with us!
