Over the years, I still find myself collecting a few retro-style Playmobil sets and enjoy setting up some lighter dioramas. For some fun as we approach a hot summer:
That would be a rare set. I have used Playmobil items over the years as accessories, quite often work with 1/30 scale. Robin.
Nice one Rob, though I'm kind of surprised that you hadn't changed the signage to Amity Island and had a Shark chasing folk around town !![]()
My youngest nieces husband is a big fan of Jaws and Horror films in General, even to the extend to going to see"The Shark is Broken" a Jaws inspired play !Great stuff!
That's funny, Steve. I have a little collection of Jaws merchandise and was thinking about adding a large shark to the scene I'm working on now. Always get sucked into Shark Week in July. Plus it's the 50th anniversary of Jaws this year (if you did not know).
Not familiar with Jonny Quest I'm afraid Rob, not everything made it across the Pond !Made this little postcard several years ago. Not quite Jaws, but the largest shark I had at the time. Jonny Quest is another one of my favorites.

Do you remember the Japanese TV cartoons Marine Boy ?
I remember as a kid in late 60s early 70s the Action Man (GI Joe to you) Deep Sea Diver, Scuba Diver and Shark !
Change can be as good as a rest, Rob !Last year I decided to start building a LEGO harbor in the fashion of a little beach town (like Amity). Mine was called Dolphin Point. My plan was to add the new LEGO Jaws set. I had expanded the build taking up the entire coffee table (unfortunately never taking a picture), and by the time I purchased the Jaws set, lost interest and broke down Dolphin Point. I move on to new things pretty quickly and seem to create seasonal dioramas.

I know, I'm mad at myself for not doing so. It came out really cool with additional beach-side buildings and water way.Change can be as good as a rest, Rob !
Well when the urge comes round again, do remember to take a photo of the whole set up and share the photos on the forum !![]()
Seeing your image makes me laugh, Mike. I've got an old pirate ship on top of one of my bookshelves (and some boxed pirate sets as well).I love the Playmobil line of figures and sets. When my children, as well as my grandchildren were young we would play with them for hours on end. I still have on the shelf above my desk a complete, with crew, Pirate ship and a Viking ship. I also have a huge castle that I custom built put away in storage tubs. Maybe someday my great grandchildren will play with it.
I remember.Try watching Jaws in a swimming pool. Big hit for Recreation Parks in the late 70s and 80s.
Steve
Didn't have castle as a kid but always wanted one. As an adult, I bought a few and made up for it a couple of years ago:We bought the Playmobile castle and fort sets for our sons when they were young. After they outgrew them, we put the sets away in the attic. Now they're the grandkids' favorite toys and they always ask me to build them when they visit. Amazingly, we still have most of the parts.
Detailed yes, but I think they're much more. Robin said it well by stating how they work well with 1:30 scale. They certainly are well detailed kids toys.
I like Playmobil toys Rob, but at 1/24 Garden scale they look a bit large to me, but I am fussy that way.I know, I'm mad at myself for not doing so. It came out really cool with additional beach-side buildings and water way.

This one; however, is from my childhood (with some newer fresher sails). I have the figures and accessories but keep them off due to the dust:

Lots of fun playing with this as a kid.

I've used the old saloon for my Wild West figures:

I think this topic has been a fun one seeing all your Playmobil pieces. Feel free to share some more.
Agree with you, Matt. They can be a little large. Still like using them in a few scenes though. On the flip side, some Toy Soldier buildings meant for 1:30 scale can be too small at the same time.I like Playmobil toys Rob, but at 1/24 Garden scale they look a bit large to me, but I am fussy that way.
They certainly do have a charm, and agree that there's a wide variation in '1:30' scale.Agree with you, Matt. They can be a little large. Still like using them in a few scenes though. On the flip side, some Toy Soldier buildings meant for 1:30 scale can be too small at the same time.
Flashback... My biggest like with Playmobil is remembering visiting those old toy stores as a kid and seeing the castle and pirate displays in the window. They had a European charm to them that I still remember, esp. those Medieval timbered houses with knights in shiny silver armor. Great stuff!
