London symposium 2013 (1 Viewer)

As a very keen enthusiast of this hobby of ours I will always attend the London shows whenever possible. Browsing the many stalls; the interesting discussions with many of the TS traders & dealers that I now know personally; meeting up with the great guys of the Brit Brigade and many of the forum members visiting from overseas; drinks in the ward room; chewing the cud with like minded froggers on all matters of TS/ the latest releases and any show pick-ups/plans for future purchases; sharing all manner of forum scuttlebutt and the host of other thoroughly enjoyable snippets that usually occur when a group of friends gather together are for me all very significant .

Being a born and bred Londoner I always was partial to a "jolly boy's outing" down to Margate or Southend and still do- but I'm especially keen on our toy soldier ones in the Capital.

See you on the ice in March guys

Morning Bob,

Very much agree mate. Talking to your good self , James, Simon, Jeff, Steve, Richard et al it has become clear that the social side of the show is fast becoming the most important side of the London shows. After all none of us HAS to travel to London to buys TS's, we can do that online at the touch of a button, but the friendship that has sprung up over the years between us all and the interaction with both collectors and suppliers is so enjoyable as to become a three times a year highlight. Why else would I haul my arse out of bed at 4am on a freezing December morning, join a train with those coming home from a night on the piss and those who have no home and make my way to our wonderful capital city ^&grin

Am very much looking forward to March mate and I hope both James and Alan can join us this time and then in June its going to be great to meet and greet George,Howard Louis etc . To be honest I don't mind if all we do is meet up for a dinner after the show with everyone, it'll be a great night and as its June it may not be too cold if I have to wait and get the first train home on the Sunday:wink2:

As I said before maybe we can chat to Clive in March and thrash out a day out for us all, what do you reckon Bob?

Rob

Hi Rob, sadly I will not be able to attend:( the costs of airfare isn't to bad but when you have lodging, food, transportation to pay for it becomes awful exspensive, so I will be watching the London June from home, but looking forward to a new June dio from David!!! maybe one year I will be able to make it hopefully...Sammy

That's a shame but hope you can make it one day Sammy. in the meantime get ready for the ' Super show weekend ' in March. Have London/Westcoaster ever been on the same weekend before???

looking forward to it Rob, can't really remember the shows falling on the same weekend at least not lately anyway, good times for all sides of the pond:)...Sammy

Should be skyping with Clive on Saturday for a planning session . . . Clive told me we will be doing the Symposium the weekend of the June London Show (Friday June 7th through Monday June 10th) and he has plenty of great ideas for visiting collections and other special events, so I am confident the London version of the NY Symposium will be a great success.:wink2:

Louis, it really sounds like its starting to come together now doesn't it?!:smile2:

I think a day trip to somewhere like Hendon, Duxford, Bovington would be a Grand Day Out if I may use a Wallace and Gromit term. Am also up for a dinner up in London on at least one of the days. Now lets just hope for a real scorching non British summer!

Best

Rob,

The logistics and ideas are all Clive's, but rest assured dinners and visits to historical sites will be on the itinerary. I hope to make some suggestions, and help out with planning, invitations and defraying the costs, but this is Clive's baby. He will ake the final decisions, and I leave the whens and wherefors of announcing the final event schedule to him.

No pressure mate, but I've been talking to the guys and they want whatever restaurant we go to to have one of those Chocolate fountains they had in Charlie and the Chocolate factory and drinks served up by Kelly Brook , Ola Jordan , and Hilary Clinton. Yeah I know the last one is a bit odd, but Simon, Jeff and James all fancy her and you know what they're like:wink2:

Congratulations Louis. Don't know how you managed it. The last time I saw Clive, he'd stuck a typewriter under his TV and was talking in to the remote control, wondering why nobody was answering him.

Looking forward to it. :wink2:

What's wrong with talking into the remote control? Its always worked for me . . . {sm2} You know I am far less technologically advanced than Clive I still can't figure out how to resize pictures.

Resizing pictures is easy. Do what I do. Just imagine they are the right size, and there they are. :smile2:

Hung out with Ed Curiel yesterday, had dinner with him at Smith and Wolenski in NYC, and continued discussion via e-mail with Clive about the plans for the Symposium. Ed and I are definitely in, and the plans are starting to come together.:wink2:

Louis mate,
Outstanding to hear plans are well advanced cobber. Even better to know that Ed is attending. I enjoy his company, his big grin and also his love of life. This year is getting better and better with plenty of "Fun and Enjoyment" in the TS collecting world.
Cheers Howard
