London Toy Soldier Show March 2011 (2 Viewers)

Thanks to Rob, Martyn, Trooper, Gazza and Simon for the show coverage, much appreciated guys.

I wonder why no one tries it over here.
Mark

That is a good question Mark, I wonder why? Do we have any cottage mfg's here at all ^&confuse

Guys

Glad you liked the pics.

I know what it is like to not be able to go to a toy soldier show - lived in Middle East for years and there is not even a toy soldier shop for 1000's of miles !!!

I used to enjoy looking in at the pics of shows and so glad to assist now.

Cheers

Gazza

Would Hocker be one?How about Metal Shed?In the kit side of the hobby it is mostly European and Asian.I can only think of Michael Roberts and Time Machine Miniatures here.

Thanks for the info Simon! :smile2: Did you lift one up? Were they heavier white metal or tinplate? If they are tinplate I must get them!^&grin

Louis,

Gotta confess to being a complete amatuer with this stuff. They were dfinately 'folded and cut' metal sheet, as opposed to something that had been cast. No idea what the metal was. Both Andy and I commented on how cheap they were (to the untrained eye).

And leaving the best to last ... my new FL Crusaders from the London Show :smile2::smile2: they are amazingly detailed.

The mat and palm tree are JG and the well that works really well with them is KC

Cheers

Gazza

Bill Hocker to be sure. Metal Shed is really high priced for the average collector. I own figures from one man shops here in the states, that make figures on the side. An up and comer could be our own Capt. Kronos. I give him photos and he can create stuff almost immediately. I intend to push him to the limits of his talent, because I love what he does and he is still growing in the hobby...IMHO..mICHAEL

Louis, this photo is a Dorset plane and figures. Comes from the Treefrog reference resource page. The Dorset site has not been updated for years. You may have to contact them and ask. This photo loos like it might be solid, but really cannot tell..Michaeldorsetsoldiers.jpg

Just to say thanks to Gazza and Rob for the great images. It is almost like being there. The nest thing about the shows is not the big boys K and C and WB etc. They all have great online presences so whilst it is great to see their stuff it is not new. What I like is all the smaller manufacturers Metal Shed and WM Hocker from the US and LL ATS etc from the UK.
Thanks guys.

Maybe Shannon can be persuaded to open a section dedicated to the British makers so that they can post all the new releases direct to the forum. Trooper

That's a great idea.

Troopers idea would be great for me too - whilst I'm over in France. Thanks also to all who posted pictures - for your time and trouble in making them available. johnnybach:salute::

I am with Trooper on this one, while it is always great to see what the big boys are producing, the smaller makers - Lt. Legion, ATS, Asset not to mention the welcome return of Yeomanry Miniatures seem to miss out. I have seen very little photos of ATS since the show on Saturday and to my knowledge nobody with a camera managed to get any shots of Asset at all. Well at least nobody has uploaded them as yet. Those photos that there were of ATS also seemed to forget about their showcase napoleonic range, so a section in the show section or for that matter anywhere on the Forum just dedicated to the UK cottage/smaller makers would I am sure be appreciated and welcomed by a large a number of forum members not to mention the manufacturers themselves. A topic as popular as show photos with any number of posts lodged also makes it difficult to find those makers that you might be interested in viewing, so a sub section as suggested by Trooper would help you to find the maker that you were looking for in the way of images.

Many thanks though to those forum members that took the trouble to take the photos on the day. I as someone due to illness who could not attend appreciated the coverage provided albeit was geared towards the bigger manufacturers and the matt end of the hobby in the main.

Interested to hear others views on this suggestion and whether it might be possible to achieve something along these lines for future shows.
