New Ticonderoga dio board from the show, (Well done Adam!)

Hi res and more to come in our gallery over the long weekend. A few indians couldn't resist jumping out of my cabinet and into the photo!

I know these have been seen before, but thought a few more pics couldn't hurt! :)

Wow. That SE-5 is fantastic. Notice the ripples in the fabric.

The SE-5 is outstanding. I see that in addition to the usual fantastic detail, that this plane has been fitted with the mount for the stand that JJD will issue. That wrinkled fuselage fabric is a great bit of detail that was present on almost all SE-5's. Thanks for the photos. -- Al

I think that this is my favorite plane John has done to date. I was just thinking what a pain it must have been to change that gun ammo drum during flight. I don't think it had more that 50 rounds.

Matthew, if memory serves me, the standard Lewis gun drum held 47 rounds. A double drum was developed, which held something like 97 rounds (not sure of exact number). The double drum was an attempt to extend the time for the gun until it had to be reloaded. As you say, reloading the Lewis was quite a job while in the air, and in combat. Before the development of the slide rail, where the gun was unlatched and pulled down to reload, the pilot would have to stand up in the cockpit to reach the gun, keeping the joy stick grasped between his knees, while he reached up to replace the drum. Many interesting and hair raising stories involving this activity are part of WW1 air lore. Not for the faint of heart! {sm5} -- Al
