Man it's hot (2 Viewers)

Ding! Ding! Ding! It is now 12:50 and we are at 100 with the index at 112. Time for the siesta.^&grin -- Al
Now 104 with 115 heat index here in Germantown. Heat index up to 118 inside DC. -- Al

Is it me or are we breaking records every year for the past four years?

I remember hot summers over the course of my 36 year long life but nothing like the past four.

Just got back from vacation in PA. I caught the beginning of your heat wave just before we left and it was hard sleeping at night. Went to Gettysburg and it was hard to imagine Civil War soldiers marching and fighting in that summer weather with their heavy uniforms. "Combat" btw, thanks for your recommendations. We stayed at the Wyndham Hotel per your suggestion. I had to buy the "Killer Angels" book after viewing the battlefield. I haven't read this book in 20 years and was surprised that the "Gettysburg" movie was copied almost word for word from the book.

108 at Newark Airport today - the hottest day ever at Newark. A balmy 103 in Roslyn Harbor.{eek3}

10 o'clock news reports Fredricksburg, Va. had a heat index of 123 and a real temp of 108. Now, that is HOT. {sm2} -- Al

And I thought it was hot when I was there last month! I carried a towel while walking along the battlefield. :rolleyes2: Chris

Every year seems to be getting hotter and hotter, and the winters are getting colder and colder. The experts around the world agree there is global warming. But some will say not so, for financial reasons.

I think it was actually hazy inside the press shop yesterday afternoon. A lot of operators and staff left early but I had to stay for the second shift start up. The plant supervisor had a lot of unused lights and idling machines shut down to save electricity.

Great went I got home, a quick drive to the beach with my daughter. There were still lots of folks there after 7 PM. Two Woodchuck hard ciders when I got home.

I never concerned my self with heat index until I worked in Manchester, Georgia and visited Andersonville May/June/July.

Sounds like you guys are have an AUSSIE Summer :)

Just make sure that you keep your lead soldiers in air conditioning, you don't want them to melt in the heat :) :)

By the way, its COLD WET & MISERABLE 'down under, in the middle of winter, the temp went down to 8c this morning... but thanks goodness the max was 19c...

I hate COLD weather ... roll on Summer {sm4}

New England has had warmer winters with fierce cold snaps when frat boys make fun of Al Gore. One snap in 2010 (2009?) was a loop of cold weather coming down from Canada. Temps in locations on either side, Alaska and Northern Europe, were normal or warmer.

John, was it you that wrote 2 Australian winters ago that it was too hot to paint?

"It's so hot that......"

The DC area hit 100 and up again on Saturday, with that heat index in the area of 105+, depending on where one was. I hear on the news reports that it got kinda brutal in Manassas with heat related problems and cancelled events. The news said that the FD treated 150+ heat related cases and transported 11 to the hospital. Not to bad considering that 11,000 spectators and 8,000 reenactors were present. Hope everyone ended up being alright. Going down to the lower/mid 90's tomorrow. Break out the coats! -- Al

Yes, when its +40c the paint dries on the brush betwwen the pot and the figure.

The problem I'm having now is getting it to dry!!! :)

Enjoy...

Hey John 8c in the morning would be nice as it gets to zero in my neck of the woods.
Yea i prefer summer too even if i pimply cant paint when it hits 45c {eek3}

Sure wish you guys could shove some of that heat over here.

Attended a BBQ last night and by 6.00pm- even with the sun low in the sky- 32 of us were huddled around my chum's charcoal fire wearing sweaters and wind cheaters in an attempt to keep warm-In July????

This will be the fourth June/July/and most probably August that its been like that here. First quarter of 2011 was unsually dry with a very very warm April-However, after about a week or so into April the doom laden headlines started to hit the Brit media-"Prepare for drought restrictions"; "Wheat prices will go through the roof this year"; "stand by for increased food prices because of the weather" etc etc..

But true to form for the good old UK come the end of May and all of June and now into July it never stopped raining and is darn chilly with it. Doomed Headlines swiftly disappeared but food prices still went up anyway-Sweaters and raincoats came back out of the closets; Umbrella prices increased overnight as our weather returned to form. Nothing changes. But thank the Lord Spain is only two hours away by plane-guaranteed warmth and sun every single summer.

Enjoy the heat guys and think of us poor blighters living here where we find difficulty in distinguishing summer from winter and vice versa as it's all the same every year. 90 degrees in the UK shade/ If only?
