March Madness (1 Viewer)

In contrast to all the bad apples in college sports, there are still some class acts. Drew Timme is one of those on Gonzaga. A great player and he knows how to handle winning and losing with dignity.

Good lord, this Final 4 is a huge bust. 2 teams I know nothing about and could not care less about, 1 team I actively despise, and Connecticut. First Final 4 I won't be interested in watching in decades. -- Al

UGH, Horns blew a 13 point lead, that is the story. That said, couple of things - Miami had to set a tournament record for made free throws both attempt and makes. I am not going to blame the refs, but Texas didn't have "lady luck" on their side when it came to calls in the 2nd half. That said - when you are up 13 with 10mins to play, you need to figure out how to close the show. Normally they do, Miami didn't let them.

Again, it was a fun run, final 4 would have been nice but not to be this year. I think they will be a good team for some time to come, they have a great base of talent.

I tuned out of several games early in the second half convinced they were decided, only to see that the team trailing came back to win. Can't believe Texas managed to lose that game today. It's almost like Sark was coaching the basketball team. A total collapse. UCLA did the same thing against Gonzaga.

Refreshing to hear that the Creighton coach didn't blame the officiating for their tough loss. I can't remember any time when there has been more whining about the officiating in every sport. Particularly the NFL.

Greg McDermott on the call on Nembhard: "Two teams played their tails off and officiating is part of the game. We’re not going to go there. We lost the game because we didn’t do enough and San Diego State did."

A total bust for me too, but naturally, it will set all sorts of ratings records for some half assed reason.

My worst showing ever in the bracket challenge, which I'm convinced is the reason 99% of the people bother watching this.

This is the year Aunt Millie is four for four in her final four picks because she chose the four schools located in an area she's considering moving to once she retires.

She's also the same aunt who wins the football pool every week because she picks the team with the helmet design she likes most.

Brad; cue the crying baby meme...................

Just a note on officiating as I have not watched until the tournament. I believe the calls are awful in general. Walks are now not called at the college level and over the back on rebounds is apparently ok. I don't know if it is the officials or they have been instructed to ignore. Again back to the game I cared about, Texas blew it but in that second half, the number of fouls had to be a tournament record. It is a different type of basketball game today for sure. I believe uconn is the team to beat now.

And Doug since you had to bring the sark dig in, be careful where you cast shade as karma can be a real beatch. . Horns football will be a force next year without a doubt.

No kidding? Is Vince Young going to graduate school there?

Lights out in college, total bust in the NFL......................as are most run first, pass third QB's.

I also think, as Tom does, that U Conn is the team to beat, plus I hope they win as I used to live in Connecticut.

Gmoney. We got a young team and much to Doug's chagrin, Sark can coach. They will be competitive. I don't for one second believe arch Manning will be a hit his first year but he has a chance to be pretty darn good in a year!

Put it this way, I would not bet against them week to week.

They have the talent and a coach who really knows how to capitalize on opportunities. I think they also have the momentum.

Which Manning is he the son of, I've lost track of the Manning clan.

If it's Peyton, he's got a shot, if it's Eli, unless Texas plays the Patriots every week, they're screwed.

And I am GMoney, which the two of us will be proving to the toy soldier world soon enough.............TD and GMoney, that's a pair I wouldn't bet against.................;).

Strap yourselves in boys and girls, MFCA is going to be a wild *** ride.

"Eight Win" Sark will be lucky if he is not tarred and feathered by Texas fans before all is said and done. They won't be as kind as USC fans when he coached drunk and then sued after being fired claiming his alcoholism was a disability. You can't make that up. That kind of victimhood might fly in California but not Texas. He is victory cancer. I loved watching Nick Saban chew his arse out on the sideline. Sark was Gomer Pyle to Saban's Sgt. Carter.

If my NFL team’s QB went to USC or UT I would be worried. I won’t use the term graduated in that sentence.

If my doctor graduated from USC (one of the highest rated med schools) I am good, and if my accountant graduated from UT I am good (the highest rated accounting program).

The NCAA, casinos and CBS have really over play “their hand” by extending these games into another week.

Even ESPN’s vaunted Sportscenter has not mentioned the Final Four in the last 48 hours.

This is a good point. Problem is probably lack o' interest in the teams involved, for most of the country. Until I read your post, and was reminded, the Final 4 had gone out of my head. After all, today is Opening Day and baseball is now my priority. Still doubt I'll watch the Final 4. -- Al

Great post.

I agree that the schools involved do not help ratings, at the same time I’d be losing interest no matter who was in the Final Four.

Nowadays the tournament builds up a massive amount of momentum for 3 weeks, only to be brought to a halt by the ridiculous money grab fused weeklong delay.

Meanwhile I am already reading Giant’s box scores while following the NHL.

Best,
Jason

Agree about the delay. It's a killer for the NCAA, especially as it hits right as MLB returns. Maybe the NCAA saw how the NFL operates during the SB publicity snoozefest that occurs between the league championship games and the sacred SB. I have yet to watch a single minute of all that garbage that leads up to the SB. -- Al

I’m not one of those who cries woke and actually dislike it when people do and as many of you probably know I’m left of center politically but my school, George Washington University, has decided to change the name of the team. They’re called the Colonials but apparently today’s students have complained about the name so the University, saying the name Colonials evokes native Americans and other “colonialized people” being subjected to bad treatment, etc., — you get it, the poor dears— so they’re changing the name. The choices are Blue Fog, Ambassadors, Sentinels or Revolutionaries. Maybe they can go with Revolutionaries and have a photo of Lenin on their chests. Knowing how these administrations work they’ll probably choose Blue Fog. I suggested to them that since I participated in the May Day demonstrations in 1971, they should call themselves the Weathermen but someone would probably complain and say it should be Weatherpeople. No response. Shocker!

Sad, but all too common. Where do the students come up with these names? My alma mater . . . Trinity College . . . are known as the Bantams. I'm afraid they'll change the name to the Fighting Cocks or something like that. In a similar vein, look what's happened to the USN. Once they named their ships for heroes, battles, cities, fish, et cetera. Now they're named for politicians. How gross can you get? Wonder if there'll be a Donald Trump or Kevin McCarthy given all the controversy that surrounds them?
