Matte to Glossy (1 Viewer)

More great "conversions", Konrad, your Scots look really great with the gloss coating. And thanks, Dave, for posting yours, too.

I really like your work, it's a nod to the side that wants a lot of detail in its figures, but a nod to the tradition of the classic toy soldier at the same time.

Keep 'em coming! ;)

Prost!

About two weeks ago, fellow forum member jrsteel post pictures of his "glossed" King & Country Mexican troopers at attention.
That very day I had just received some Alamo sets and seeing his post here on this thread I was most encouraged to give them a glossy finish as well.
Here is my first group of the K&C "Remember the Alamo" line, and it is set RTA030, Mexican Artillery.

While the Artillery Set looked fine to me and I was satisfied with the new finish, it seemed to be somewhat incomplete, so I added set no. RTA031 Artillery Officer.
Here are some pics with the addition.

Well, I still thought it could get better, so I added set no. RTA035 General Manuel Castrillon to the display.
Here is a picture with the General, observing the effects of the Artillery.

The figure I enjoyed most, once converted to a gloss finish, was General Castrillon.
Here you have a few views of only him.
The first picture is the original stock photo.

Last ones, I promise :smile2:
Two close-ups of the mounted General Manuel Castrillon.
I love that stuff :wink2:

Hi Konrad,

Your newly glossed figures are excellent! I continue to be amazed at how much more artistic these figures seem become when they are glossed. I find them to be both interesting and exciting. Thanks for keeping us informed of your continuing work.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi Pat,
thanks for your reply and I am glad to see that you enjoy the converted figures.
Watch this space during the next couple of weeks for a few more "Remember the Alamo" sets, among other subjects :smile2:

Konrad, those glossed Mexican sets just look wonderful. The two officers are the real toppers. It is obvious to me that all the producers should now provide their figures with the glossy finish, or at least the option of it, as all the figures just look so much better in gloss. -- Al

Hi Al,

I wholeheartedly agree with your comment. The figures just look outstanding in a glossy finish.

Konrad has done a remarkable job.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Thank you very much, Al :smile2:
Hey, did you cross the line yet, ^&grin, and glossed your WWI French troops by Britains?

Hi Konrad. Sorry to report, I have not done anything about glossing my figures. My main problem is one of space. I have no where to set up shop that would not be in the way and would not have to come down on a daily basis. I also have a great fear that once I start and see the results, I will not be able to stop. I know the WW1 Britains look great and because of all the other examples I have seen in the related threads, I would probably want to do my JJD Jacobites, and my JJD POA figures. I'm sure I would have to do my KC SOE and 1914 French troops, as well. It would be a never ending project, if I were to start. So I haven't.:redface2: Yet. -- Al

Looking at the full thread, the transformations to gloss universally improves the appearance of the figures. But it may be more than just gloss, the repainting of the figures seems to be as important, if not more important, than the gloss coat.

I have an original JJD Dragoon that was converted to gloss on the thread. The fine detail you are adding to these figures is truly remarkable. Far beyond any skill level I possess.

Any estimate of the percentage of the surface area of a figure gets new paint?

I would love to see a figure transformation as a you-tube video.

Hi Fraxinus,
I agree with you, that the repainting of the JJD Jacobite Rebellion line Dragoon, done by fellow forum member "Dragoon" absolutely enhances the outcome. He also repainted other JJD figures, like Jacobite Highlanders and French troops and artillery of the FIW, which he showed us in some threads in the JJD section.
All the other figures in this thread, by Britains, JJD or King and Country, were just glossed by me, no other alterations like repainting were done.
And still, I am most satisfied with the results and have plans to continue this "project" for a long time to come :wink2: ^&grin

Back to John Jenkins figures with this post.
Ranger Charles Jenkins, previously shown on this thread, has some company now, set no. RR-01 Rangers Preparing for a Raid.
So far they take it rather easy :smile2:
Here are some pics from the new group.

They look great Konrad. I really like the Alamo Mexican artillery set you did.
