Matte to Glossy (1 Viewer)

Hi Al,

^&grin I knew those would be tempting for you ^&grin
Go for it, you won't regret it.

I do like my khaki colored British troops and the grey colored Germans too, but these are really tops now within my WWI section.
Now I will be looking for the third set they released, a 3-piece set.
All 7 of the French troops should look spectacular together :wink2:
And then there is the cavalry of course, the Cuirassiers.
Looking forward to get my hands on them at some point.

Here a few more pics that show the two sets separately.

Konrad

Well, that settles it. These figures just look too good with the gloss finish. Much better than the original matte. Beautiful job, Konrad. Now I will have to convert mine. -- Al

Hi Al,
here's a last one for you for tonight.
Three of the French troops with a tree stump from Britains set 51008.

Thanks for posting all the pictures, Konrad. I am most impressed with the conversions, as even the tree looks better with a gloss coat. I have changed my collecting habits and now purchase mostly glossy figures, Soldiers of the World, when I buy figures. I still buy some matte, mainly the excellent JJD WW1 aircraft and related figures, but gloss has always been in my collection and will only be increasing, especially if I move to convert my WW1 Britains, as you have done. And, lord help me, I'm starting to eye my JJD Jacobites and POA series, and thinking about how excellent they would look with a gloss finish.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

These figures look good Konrad, in fact they look Very Good. Nice choice for gloss coating.
They'll add some visual ''pop'' to your WWI display. 19th century uniforms in the new on-rushing 20th century world. - Ken

Here's a little sneak peek of upcoming "glossy" figures :smile2:
First sample shown here.
One of Roger's Rangers, Charles Jenkins, a 2011 Collector Club Figure.

Hi Konrad,

The more I view your newly glossed figures, the more I drool. I am nearly dumbfounded at what a terrific difference and/or improvement results from glossing the nicely detailed matte figures. It is true, I am a gloss fan, but I never fully realized how applying gloss would seem to bring out so much of the detail exhibited on matte figures. You are doing a terrific job with these figures and your matte collection is beginning to truly sparkle! My compliments for an outstanding job! {bravo}}

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

it looks great! toy soldiers comeback- military miniatures?/models/mattes are going glossy! Anyone want to try a St petersburg? lol

Here's some K&C Alamo Mexicans that have been glossed.

Nice one, jrsteel.
Good looking figures :salute::
Funny that you are posting them today, 'cause right now I am looking at some K&C Alamo figures right here on my desk.
Was thinking about how they are going to look in gloss and then I checked on the forum and saw your post.
Think I will join you soon in glossying some Alamo sets.

After the sneak preview of a single figure a few weeks ago, here is an update on my growing "Thin Red Line", the 93rd Highlanders making their stand at Balaclava in the Crimean War.
The photos don't do justice, compared to seeing them in a lighted and mirrored cabinet, but you get an idea ^&grin

And some additional views from the rear.
I should have used another color for the background to make the gloss finish more visible.
Will do that on another update in the future.

Good grief Konrad what have you done! {eek3} No wonder I can’t get any more figures for my Crimean collection you have them all! :wink2:

Seriously, what a difference a gloss finish has made to an already great set of figures. :)

A great thread this!{bravo}}

Those look outstanding! But I am very pleased that I have a pretty good Thin Red Line from Britains Collectors Club. I have added to the display in my photo but they give you an idea of how the Britains Glossy ones already l hope you dont mind that I posted them here for a comparison.

Those Britains figures are beautiful, Dave.
If they would have them more widely available, and not only through the collector's club and not only one pose a year, I am sure a lot of collectors would be going for them.
As all the newer Britains "Glossies", like Redcoats, Bluecoats, FIW, Victoria Cross, these are top quality Toy Soldiers.

^&grin Jeff, I really hope that a few are still left for you ^&grin
Watch this space at later dates and see the "Thin Red Line" grow :wink2: :smile2:

Hi Konrad,

I agree totally with you and can only say that I wish they would produce more of these Glossy figures for the Crimean War. I dont know if there is a large market for them but I do know I would buy more if they were available. I would really like to see some Russian Cavalry figures to face off with these guys. Perhaps someday they will be produced.

Anyway I really love what you are doing with these figures! Keep up the great work.

Dave
