Meeting new colletors. (1 Viewer)

Jack mate,
You are a pistol.^&grin Can't wait until the Big Bash in Brissy in June to catch up with you, Larso and Wayne to chew the fat and enjoy a soothing ale or three.
Simmo has started a good thread. It has always been a highlight of my collecting year to fly to Brisbane to catch up with Brett, Andy and Helen and of course Simmo and OZ.
I have been lucky enough in 2010 and 2011 to attend the West Coaster and Chicago Shows and meet, chat and enjoy a drink with many US collectors, all of whom I now call a mate.
In 2010 the highlight of that year was attending Louis Badaloto's NY Symposium and meet not only Louis, Lawrence Lo (don't rag on Louis), Hans Hedrich (I wasn't raggging on Louis) and Mark Hoffman. Four outstanding collectors and top blokes.
The enjoyment of collecting can only be surpassed by the enjoyment of meeting and talking shop with other worldwide collectors.
Cheers Howard (Not Monash:))

Hi Howard mate me old Cobberoo {sm4} I got the collecting bug again (albeit in a lesser form) and I'm looking forward to the Brisvegas bash to meet the new Aussie collectors such as 'Pistol Jack', and the old campaigners of course.

Howard

Keen to catch up. I was just saying the other day to one of our English friends on the forum that I had only ever met one other collector face to face. We are having a small get together Thursday but the June gathering of eagles is much anticipated. I do quite a bit of travel - not this year though - and will look to integrate a bit of toy soldier action overseas.

I cannot get over how much fun the hobby and this forum has been - I just wish I could paint because I would buy 1000 1/72 nd Airfix and make my own Waterloo diorama. I said this to my wife and her response - God love her - was 'why don't you'?

I was in Brett's temple of doom the other day and stepped over what I suspect was your Me 109. I would love to do the Spitfire with ground crew but that's a bridge too far!

Stay well and keep well south of the Rockies!

Jack

Careful with Larso - if you shout first he will always end on an odd number!

This sounds like some kind of code. No wonder Brett has not let me meet you guy's. Simmo.{sm4}

The funniest thing about being in a 'shout' with Jack is to hear him moan about having to pay for beer, when you've only bought him a coke!

Simmo,

similar sort of meeting with Wayne, who lives 5 minutes away. Its great to meet up, share a beer and talk about toy soldiers and others on the Forum (in a nice way :)) and to show off the collection.

I've also met up with Todd (Rethymno) who I've done lots of repairs for and the occasional painting job, he's got a great collection of 8th Army and AK, so its always a pleasure to catch up with him.

John

The hardest part about going to John,s is leaving always have a good time chatting with him and his Mrs :)
Im looking forward to meeting Todd and chatting AK.

This thread shows what collecting is all about: sharing common interests and making friends. But for this Forum, I'm sure I never would have gotten to know Howard, Rob, Brett, UK Reb, Mike Estell, among others (no intention to leave anyone out:smile2: ).

After an extended break I have got the collecting bug again, albeit in a minor form, and I look forward to meeting the new (and old) collectors at some stage. I live on the Sunshine Coast in Qld, so I'm not far from Brisbane.

Matt

Good to see you back OZ the place hasn't been the same without you. Simmo.{sm4}

Thanks Simmo, I did get bored with collecting for a while so I sold off most of my collection, which was rather extensive as you know being one of the few members that had seen it. There didn't seem much point in posting here after I stopped collecting, but seeing the new K & C Aussie sets coming out this year I decided to start collecting again and jump back onto the forum {sm3}

Welcome back Oz. You slipped into this thread like an invisible Ninja !!

You have a lot of catching up to do as Rob has hit 20,000 posts.

Regards
Brett

Why thank you kind Sir and right back at you. The social side of this hobby is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding apsects of it. Through this forum and the London shows I've been lucky enough to make dozens of new friends from as far away as Australia and as near as Birmingham. Would take forever to name you all but you all know who you are{bravo}} When I joined up in 2005 I was still experiencing long periods of time being laid up with a back injury, this place was an absolute life saver. Not only did I share an interest with many on here but as I say so many of these people went onto become good friends of mine who its a pleasure to talk to every day. I think even if I sold every TS I have today I would still be here just for the chat.

Any of you good folk planning a trip to London at some point in the futue please do it, you will be made very welcome in the bar.
