This is another special commission set that Hiriart made last year for me (and others) of mounted Italian Carabinieri. It has subsequently been added to their regular catalog as set 1353 Arma dei Carabinieri, Italia.

This is another special commission set that I ordered from Hiriart, which I expect to receive in a week or two. It is World War II Hungarian Infantry, Russian Front, 1941. Other than Authenticast which made a set of WWII Hungarian Infantry prone firing, I can't think of another manufacturer who has made them. I am particularly fond of the saluting officer figure.

This is a really attractive set. -- Al

In post number 682, I said I couldn't recall any other manufacturers who had made WWII Hungarians other than Authenticast, but I forgot that I had a Palmetto set of World War II Hungarian Elite Guards.

This is another Hiriart special commission set that I ordered and will be receiving in about two weeks. It is World War II Slovak Infantry, Operation Barbarossa, 1941. I am not aware of any other manufacturer who has made WWII Slovaks, although I did see a Britains conversion set in Bob's collection. It was unusual enough that Richard Walker made note of it at Bob's open house last November. NB: the camera's flash has distorted the Slovak cross on their helmets in the first photo.

I have a photo of another Hiriart special commission set that I will be receiving in about two weeks. It is World War I Force Publique, Belgian Congo, 1914. Note the Congolese fanion with the yellow star on a blue field. They are wearing their parade dress uniforms.

This Captains & Cavalry set is of World War II French Fortress Troops as would be found manning the Maginot Line. FYI: One easy way to identify unmarked Captains & Cavalry (usually boxed) and Palmetto (unboxed) figures is their eyebrows which have a heavy black line that curves downward at the outside edge.

Edmund's CSA Generals. I have the box in storage which has the set's name on it so they might alternatively be CSA Army of Northern Virginia Generals.

Neat personality set. My guess, from left, Lee, Longstreet, Hood, ? , Jackson, Stuart. Who is #4? Hill? Maybe the red shirt cuff is the key. -- Al

Thanks Al. I agree with most of your picks, however, I am not sure if number three is Hood. Numbers three and four may be Lee's corps commanders Ewell and Hill since Longstreet, Jackson, and Stuart are represented in the set and they all were corps commanders. BTW, those look like red long johns to me.

Good call on the red long johns. Hill was well known for wearing a red shirt, so #4 is probably Hill. I'm pretty sure #3 is Hood. He had a sandy blonde beard/hair, despite the appearance in photos of darker hair. There is a painting of him in his coat which has a definite blue tint to it, taken from his actual coat held, in a museum (not sure where). -- Al

Al,

I checked an Old Toy Soldier Auction from a couple of years ago where they offered this set in their catalog. It is indeed named CSA Army of Northern Virginia and the two generals in question are Hood and Hill.

Mike

This is Edmund's U.S. Navy. There is another version, which I do not have, of them in their summer uniforms.
