Mike mate,
These last two sets of the Royal Marines and Admiral Lord Nelson are outstanding sets. Not being a glossy collector I keep getting drawn back for another look at the Royal Marines set. All you need to do is add a set of convicts and you have a dio from the landing of the First Fleet in Sydney in 1788.
The temptation to purchase this set is becoming too much.^&grin
Many thanks for posting.
Cheers from the Land Downunder, Howard

Hi Howard,

Thanks, I am glad you like it, knowing that you are a matte collector and all. You are right, that would make a great diorama, if you just could find the convicts somewhere. I believe that Tradition also makes 1805 Royal Navy sets manning guns.

Mike

This is Beau Geste set No. 170 BELGIAN INFANTRY, 1897. That is one of my favorite time periods for collecting armies of the world given their colorful dress uniforms. Their tunics look dark green, but are in reality dark blue---must be something about the camera and flash. Weird.

Very nice looking figures. Have always liked the very striking Belgian tri-color. The black-yellow-red just stand out really well, both on their flags and their aircraft markings of WW1. -- Al

Thank you, Al. The Belgian tri-color is striking. The only other Belgians I have in my collection are from Bastion Models in their 1914 uniforms, but with no flag. BTW, my wife and I will be on vacation in Belgium next week, after a 20 year hiatus for me and the first time for her.

Sounds like a great vacation. Have a safe trip and enjoy yourselves. -- Al

[SIZE=5]Hope you and your bride of a few years have a wonderful trip! Should we advise the toy soldier shops to have their good stuff out front where you can readily access it?

Thank you, Al and Al. We depart for Amsterdam on Thursday. Among the optional side trips offered on this BeNeLux tour is one to Flanders Field and the Atlantic Wall. Another is to the Waterloo battlefield. When I called Ed Ruby on his 88th birthday last week, he mentioned that they sell toy soldiers at a shop/museum at the latter. Another trip highlight will be the tulips during the short window of time when they are in bloom.

Thank you, Al. Loved Brugges, Waterloo, and Hitler's Atlantic Wall, but missed seeing the tulips since they had a late winter in Holland and they had not bloomed yet. Had some great meals, too.

It is hard to beat the color of those 1720 era French sets from Beau Geste. They also have some interesting musical instruments in that band.

This recent acquisition of Quality Model Soldiers set 9 of the 5TH BATTALION FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION was the only set I was missing of the 21 sets in their Franco-Prussian War range. However, I have two other sets which have broken parts (bayonets and a drum stick) which I will attempt to replace if the opportunity arises.

Interesting subject . . . too bad they're painted so poorly. Hope you're successful with your repairs.

Al,

Those crude faces give them a certain charm that I have come to appreciate. I won't be able to repair them since the parts are missing.

Mike

I recently had a handyman install can lights in the ceilings of three rooms, including my toy soldier room. That's the good news; the bad news is that I had to empty out a curio so he could install the new light switch behind it. Here are my soldiers patiently waiting to be put back on their shelves.
