For 2016, I have the two military schools on order: Hiriart set No. 1006 ESCUELA NAVAL, URUGUAY.

The other set I have on order in 2016 is Hiriart set No. 1057 ESCUELA MILITAR, URUGUAY. I believe Britains did a more basic, less accurate version of this set decades ago.

This year, I have ordered Hiriart's set No.1295 ACADEMIA MILITAR, VENEZUELA. I seem to remember seeing an older version of this set from Britains with sky blue tunics and a visor cap rather than the Prussian style headgear on Hiriart's figures.

They remind me of Prussian Guards

Love these uniforms. 3 shades of blue set off by the red trim. Very sharp. -- Al

On my 2016 Hiriart order, is a non catalog set of HUSARES de VENEZUELA wearing red uniforms.

At this month's West Coaster, I picked up three new Frontline Figures sets from the French & Indian War series. These are grenadiers from the French Regiment de la Reine. I was hoping to also pick up their new Hungarian and Russian sets from the Seven Years War, but they didn't have then available yet. The attached photos are stock photos from their website.

As I was packing up on Sunday, after the show was over, I noticed a vendor who had been selling building facades. They were very reasonably priced, so I picked up two of them. I forgot what this façade, which is about 24 x 10 x 4 inches, represents, but it is made of wood and foam. Here it is with some Hiriart 54mm Loyal Lancaster Regiment troops.

Not sure of the proper name, but I believe it's at the Guard's yard in London . . . Birdcage Walk or something like that. Certainly Martyn would know. I agree that they're nice backdrops.

Thank you, Marytn. The vendor had actual photos of the buildings he had reproduced. He also made a smaller version of the Guards Museum backdrop that I purchased.

The second building backdrop I picked up is about 18 x 12 x 2 inches. Again, I am not sure what building it represents, but it will work with a number of toy soldier possibilities. Here it is with Frontline Figures Austrian Hoch und Deutschmeister Regiment toy soldiers. I hope this vendor returns to the West Coaster next year, so I can see him before he has sold many of the other building facades he has made. One of the major things I have learned from Ed Ruby is the enhancement a backdrop brings to a toy soldier display. I don't believe I can recall any of Ed's displays that does not have some sort of backdrop or building façade.

I recently picked up a set of Berliner Zinnfiguren flats on eBay. Although the 24 figures were boxed, the box did not identify what unit they represent. They could be Prussian Husaren. In any case, this is the first set of flats I have ever acquired.

The two building backdrop facades that I picked up at the West Coaster have inspired me to reorganize one of my Howard Miller Collector's Cabinets. I am in the process of making it an all Hiriart cabinet; I'll have to find somewhere else to put the Trophy, Edmund's, and Tradition sets I had displayed there previously. Here is the new shelf of British Regiments with the Guard's Museum backdrop. The first photo is an overall view while the second and third photos are the left half and right half, respectively. NB: The glass shelves are 30 x 10 inches. The first photo also shows my French Military Parade, 1914, on the shelf above the Guard's Museum British Regiments display.

Hi Mike,

Your use of the façade is most effective. it adds much of interest to your display. And, of course, having all those beautiful figures marching past it makes the display very, very impressive.

You indicated the shelf size in this particular curio is 30 X 10 inches. Can you share the dimensions of the façade? The shelving in my curios just might be deep enough to accommodate a façade such as yours.

A continued thanks to you for posting photos of your collection. I have followed this thread from its beginning and I have never failed to be impressed.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi Pat,

Thank you for your kind words; they are much appreciated. There is nothing like rows of glossy figures on parade. Just think how it would look if they were painted in matte. Ugh! The façade is 24 x 10 x 2, but the porch adds another two inches in the center part bringing that dimension out to four inches.

Mike
